Where will Shanny go?

Recommended Posts

I heard he was thinking boston, has a good relationship with Dave Lewis and liked the signings recently

Again, this is just speculation, nothing but rumour and heresay, but thats what 90% of free agency is anyway

Toronto needs more speed, signing Shanny isn't the way to go for them.

Shanny's apperantly looking for $4-5 mill.

Toronto is apperantly talking to Peca right now. Apperantly him and Tucker are on better terms now. Although Peca doesn't solve any immediate problems.

Can Peca play wing? From what I've read in the Toronto media Lindros is a done deal at $750k, but who knows. I don't know if I want Peca, partly because of the whole him/Tucker thing, and also because it doesn't address any problem. If Lindros signs (which I'm like 80% sure he will), we won't need another center. We need a scoring wing.

Antropov signed today, I guess Maurice really wanted to keep him.

Eazy would know better than I would, I just read the articles from the various papers online. From what I've read, its basically a done deal. Hes stated that other teams have inquired about him, but he'd rather play for less in TO. I think he knows his value is low right now, and that he would be given a great opportunity here. I want him on the team. I thought in the games he played last year he played far above expectations, even when playing with crap linemates. He would be a great #2 center here again. There is even some talk of him playing wing with Sundin. My only concern is his wrist. In everything I've read thats quoted him it has always been "by camp my wrist will be better" or "I'll be healthy come September". While thats good news, its disheartening because it leads me to the impression that he is still recovering. I think yesterday was his first day back on the ice, so hopefully he can get his ass in gear.

Yeah...He is a conditioning freak as well so hopefully he is able to work on Plyos and some legs, etc in the mean time.

Last year he looked a little overweight by 10 or so pounds, but with the lockout and his growing age that is not surprising.

Thanks for the info

Today in the paper it said that last year Lindros bulked up too much in the gym during the lockout, and now, with all this time off not being able to lift he has slimmed down a bit

as far as shanny goes i would say that boston is higher than st. louis. his wife is form the boston area and live there in the summer. he is also very good friends with glen murray. he has stated in the past that he would like to play for boston. remmember that he played up hte road for hartford and loved the area.

I don't believe Peca plays any wing....

What is the feeling in TO regarding Lindros, Kosy? His wrist healing up and everything?

I'm pretty sure the sticking point on the deal is his wrist. He had an interview on the Fan590 yesterday (Toronto sports station) and didnt' commit to a signing, but definately hinted it. Basically the message is, he's there, and will JFJ will lock'em up once the wrist is healed.

As for the Toronto reception? It's pretty well the same split as Quinn's firing. People who wanted Quinn gone, want him back because they see the talent and potential. People who loved Quinn, want Lindros gone to prove it was JFJ's fault for last years "Failure". So roughly 60-40/70-30 infavour of Lindros coming back, especially at 750K.

He played the UFA market for a while before he resigned with the Wings two summers ago, so I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed in Motown.

lindros just fell apart as the season went on because he had to make up for the loss of sundin. it proved to be to much pressure. i would like to see him back in a leafs uniform for a FULL season. he could be alot of help

follow dave lewis to boston perhaps, but he might have to take a pay cut, IMO

rumor is Shanny wants around 4 mil/season. Don't see many takers at that price. Habs perhaps?

I remember hearing that he liked Babcock and his way of coaching. He was quoted saying that Babcock gave him a reason to try harder and play better.

There were 5 teams that were interested in him, Detroit, Los Angeles, Boston, St. Louis and Montreal. Apparently (from TSN and RDS) that Boston and St. Louis are now out of the picture and I think it was the LA Times that said that the Kings were also left aside, so if you make the substactions that would leave Detroit and Montreal. But right now rumors are flying around from Mtl that the Habs have made an interesting offer to Simon Gagné (5 millions for 5 years total of 25 millionss) who is a RFA. If Gagné would take that offer that would mean that the Habs would have to give something like 5 draft picks to Philly for the rights of Gagné. But we all know how many "coaches" there are in Montréal, everyone knows somebody that knows someone who is a good friend of a player that knows that this is accurate. My opinion, too good to be true.

Did you read that somewhere or saw it on TV. Or did you actually hear it from someone?

Shanny would be a good fit for Mtl. There's lot's of young guys who need a true leader. I think that with a good center playing with him, he could still put up at least 30 goals next year. Personnally, I would give him the 4+ millions, just for the presence he could bring in the locker-room.

He could put up the numbers, but whether Koivu would work, or whether Pleks and the other young guys will ever become scorers is still in question.
