How fast goes your slapshot

Recommended Posts

For those who have once or many times measured their shots with a radar, how fast did your slap shot goes (in MPH)?

My best shot ever is 87 MPH for the moment...

Lets put this post to rest before anyones head gets to big. Kovyribs enough with the senseless posts already. Not to brag or anything, but i guarantee you that my extremely accurate wrist and snap shot are far more efficient than some war pig who tanks it 100mph over the net every time.

Never clocked my slapshot, had my wrist clocked with a hockey ball at 65 when I was a bout 14. Kovy are you sure it was MPH and not Kims?

im 19 and my fastest is 77 mph.

kovy, i bet your's wasn't 84 and i bet you dont go to the nhl, cuz if you were ready, you would have been scouted by now, not only talked to sylvain perrault. Even though your 155 lbs, at 6'2" you would have been noticed and told to bulk up by NHL scouts

I shot 92............... km/h which I dont know how to convert that into miles and that was with a ball hockey ball, power isnt as effective as accuracy and quickness, so kovy even if u shoot that hard dont be braggin until you get scouted.

I've shot over 100mph with a ball at the center ice festival, the next day I brought my buddies there to see and only got 97mph. That was with a flyweight... I haven't clocked with a puck, but I can fire them both about the same speed probably a little slower on ice.. only problem is a ball who knows WHERE it's going (usually slices like my golf shot) and my ice slapper isn't a whole lot more accurate (unless it's low).

A couple buddies of mine can put the ball/puck wherever they want whenever they want... I would give anything to have that ability.. my only talent is hitting it hard... lol

The bottom line is, the ratio of slapshot to wristshot goals for me is about 1:30.

Guys scatter when I wind up.. of course, they're my own guys because they know it'll be heavy and wildly inaccurate.. mostly I just end up hurting some poor sap that turns to the side at the last second trying to block a shot... because it takes me about 10 minutes to wind up.

Slapshots are SO overrated.. but every S&P I go to people ask me how to do it... I usually tell them it's not even worth worrying about. If you can fire an even moderately decent wrister accurately, you'll score WAY more goals...

And yes..slapshots are certainly over rated, although I do know a few who can snipe with them, but certainly they are the minority. Quick release of any shot or even a "surprise release" is far more effective than velocity.

We have our own gun, and I clocked my son at 73mph at age 14...his best..most were 62- 70(ice puck).

He is now 18 and plays AAA inline and "pro" inline(self described by the league), his best is 86 mph..2 years ago with an inline puck. Now his average slapshot is around 80 - 82 but very consistant.

The best I have measured in MLRH was 91 mph..but many had trouble cracking 80.(inline puck) I find it interesting that there are not more high velocity shots using ther lighter inline puck. Although I have seen an inline slapshot snap a wrist in practice.

At the 2004 skills competition for PIHA, the best shot was only 84 mph.

Getting that puck up there over 90 takes some horsepower and great technique.

One thing though, the "radar" that use ultrasonic srensors, are very affected by temperature and humidity, and can be off by 10% on average..more for a single shot of course. It can happen to get a freak reading, with air currents background noise etc.

Should have mentioned, the best way to score by winding up a big slapper is.. to wind up, take a downswing and fake it... now, when the winger and defenseman go down to block it.. run in and take a wristshot and score ;) There's about the best use of a slapshot in a game situation...

Haven't been clocked in ice (nor do I want to) but about 5 years ago in roller (the normal pucks with the pegs), I hit 74,74, & 76. I wasn't too impressed but they actually ended up being some of the higher numbers even though one guy did hit 93. I think I may have a harder shot now since my technique has improved, but how often do you get off that *perfect* slapshot in a rushed game-situation? That's where the quick wristers excel over the slapper.

I'm going to have to grow a skullet hairdo and then clock myself again.
