Micron 10-90's finally broken down

Recommended Posts

So, my 10-90's have finally had their last competitive skate. The right boot is still okay for support, but the left boot is getting floppy to the point that outside edges are getting a bit iffy. The white power clips have become brittle, and when one broke after a shot, I just cut them both off. These are the best fitting boots I've ever had, with the right depth and width, and the only boot that I've been able to get the nice parallel lacing pattern without a big V in the throat of the skate. I read that the 8090 was an equivalent boot in terms of fit, but they're getting a bit scarce in my size. I tried on some Bauer Air 90's that were in pretty good shape, but my forefoot got crushed. Is the Supreme70 the current equivalent fitting boot? The only other skate that I got to fit well (but not as well) is a pair of old Easton Ultra-Lites that are now my roller hockey boots.

i don't think they're 8090s really because i tried on the 70s in 7.5EE and 7.0EE (because we didn't have D in stock) and those fit more like the 8090s in D width. Although they were a bit wide they were still hella comfy and light.

Mine are a bit different. I had the white powerclips up front like in the picture, but I don't have the white criss cross at the ankles. Mine are black. I think the ones in the picture are a slightly newer design.

PICUTRES!!! :)

Too late... I cut off the power clips last month when one broke. This weekend, I had the holders remounted to another boot.

Here is what's left of the original boot. The white powerclip was over the three eyelets at the toe on the inside of the boot, but I cut them off after they became brittle. Note the two eyelets on the tendon guard for old-school shin pads.

I put the holders on another pair of boots.

The markings on the holders are embossed into the plastic rather than being printed with ink.

The little "rim" right above the bottom of the blade steel was from a prior bad sharpening job. It doesn't really affect how the skate feels on the ice.

Wow, I didn't think anyone had Micron skates any more. You may have been the last one!

I play with a guy that has Micron Mega's (circa 1990).

Your 10-90s should be similar to the Supreme70. The Supremes in a D width are now built off a true E last, not a EE last like the 8090s were. They'll probably be a bit wider than your old Microns, so if you can, try on before you buy...

I still have my 10-90s - I don't wear them anymore, but I can't seem to get rid of them. Great skates.

I put some miles on mine, but damn, were they ever some nice wheels for me. They are still great pond hockey warriors, but mostly just sit in a place of respect and honor in my gear closet.

Oh maaaaan. They're sold. I was reaching for my Visa.

Please Bauer, re-issue the Red stripe Mega 10-90 Pro and the original Daoust 501. I'll guarantee you 6 custom sales (3 of each) regardless of price.
