KOR Shift 1 and 2

Recommended Posts

Ogie, may I infer that all I'd need to do is send a sock-mold of my foot to Kor in order to get a custom last and subsequent skate built for me?

Not sure if this has been posted already, but here's a video explaining how Kor skates are different than all other skates:

I had never heard of Kor but after watching the video, I understand what makes their skates special. The entire boot is made of a composite material ("unibase") that is bakeable and conforms to your foot. Unlike other skates, it is the entire boot and not just the inside foam.

That has been posted quite a few times and it's a shame that Vince isn't with the company anymore. He was a great representative of the company and nice guy.

I'd recommend contacting them and see, however, that is more or less what did. When I asked if they would be offering custom for the masses (as I suspected the question would come up or not), they had this answer: ...as of now I'm working with a couple more cases of this sort, not bone spurs though, but in case is pops up, please let them know that we're looking to set a standard in costumer service, supported by our great technology we'll go that extra step in our quest for the best costumer satisfaction. If at a moment we dedicate a complete program to this I'll immediately share the details on it.

HOWEVER, bear in mind, unless you have something specific out of the ordinary most may not need customs since it's almost all formable. In my case, I needed a bigger box (woah! keep that clean).

My foot has too much volume for 709s - and not just in the quarters. I definitely need a custom last for depth alone. My toes are too wide for the widest Nike toeboxes. I'm also growing a nice little bone spur from a pair of new Daousts and have had some truly horrific ankle degeneration from skates that weren't stiff enough in the lateral (worn-out Riedell customs).

It seems like Kor might be able to do a custom last in some cases, so that's great. Gives me one mroe option.

Perhaps, but aren't all Graf's toe boxes more or less the same, Keith?

LG, I'd say write Kor and see what they can do.

I second that. I emailed Kor asking if the boot would be wide enough for my foot (even with the thermoformable materials) and they instantly asked for foot traces so that they could modify the unibase.

That's what they did with mine so that it could take a bigger toe box. It's brilliantly roomy!

Yeah, but I have seen customs before with the next size up toebox on the skate to mitigate that somewhat. I was mainly referring to that skate not having enough depth for him. That is just unreal. 709 is the deepest skate ever probably.

The 709 isn't deep enough even when I go up a half size, which is usually the trick they'll use when building a semi-custom skate (ie. customised build/materials, but not a personal last) -- go up a size in the quarters, keep the rest of the skate the same. Problem is, it's not just the quarters - it's the entire skate from about the third eyelet from the toe all the way up to the ankle.

I just can't believe I got a bone spur from Daousts. They're leather slippers for god's sake. Any less structure and I'd be skating in ballet shoes.

Basically, I think my feet got spoiled by custom skates when I was a kid, was out of the game for nearly a decade, and now I'm trying to figure out how my old skates fit me.

I'm going to email Kor and see what happens. I'm making an appointment to get lasted at my LHS, but I'm keeping my options open. I'm terrified of Graf's durability and customer service record, and I'm not convinced that the NBH skates will behave on my feet.

My other topic got closed because of a nOOB causing crap, but I'd just like to again thank Kor for their awesome customer service. They really do go above and beyond to make sure the customer is happy. I had a slight problem with my right skate and they sent me a new one asap and were totally reassuring and cool throughout the whole process.

Thanks!

Are we talking distributors or players?

I've got a friend that's a really good player, who's interested in Kor skates for his deform feet.

I spent some time in Vegas with a gentleman who is considering distributing Kor in Europe. I know there has been some interest in the past from our European members so I will gladly pass any contact information on to him regarding.

Chadd or anyone, can the Shift 1s be converted to roller? I thought I remember hearing the holders were a pain in the ass to get off or even somewhat not possible so I was just wondering.

Thinking about picking up a pair to convert for roller if this can be done. Thanks.

Thanks Chadd, one last quick question, if the holders had already been swapped out for something else say Pitch or LS, would those be easier to get off like a normal conversion?

The problem isn't taking the old holders off, it's mounting the new ones. Putting new holes in the sole can be difficult.

I am a 9 in a tack, but 10.5 in Kor Shift 2's.

I'd tell you to search (as I know this has come up before) but you can't search for anything under 4 characters, right?

I take it back (not the sizing aspect) but searching - try searching for the word SHIFT in the title (only) and you'll find a ton of threads on the skates many of which address this issue - some even directly (one was locked recently).

Check it out - should help.
