What Piece Of Equipment Do You Hate Buying

Recommended Posts

Skates are probably the most difficult for me to shop for because I have flat feet and skinny ankles. Plus there's no way to know for sure how they'll really fit until you actually skate on them. Cages and helmets are next on the list. If Graf or Jofa went out of business I'd be SOL.

I HATE buying shinpads, they never fit right. I have very long skinny legs and also wear a knee brace its impossible to find ones that fit right.

Interesting topic. I had no idea there are so many people out there like me who hate shopping for elbow pads and skates. Elbow pads suck for me because I have large biceps but medium arms, (I'm a Marge!), hate bicep straps, and there are only a few models of elbow pads that don't have the bicep straps. Unfortunately, the forearm straps always seem to snag on my jersey and I find myself adjusting them through out a game/practice. I have an old pair of Franklin something/something (decals are worn off) which suck but I can't find anything I really like. I hate buying skates because it's expensive, time consuming, and since skates are the most important piece of equipment, I hate changing. I love gloves and sticks though. :D

I don't mind elbows, shoulders, skates, or gloves. Once I find ones that are comfortable, I just keep buying them or use them for a long time.

Mainly skates because fitting them in the store is a lot different than wearing them in games.

Main issue is having to pay for the darn equipment. :P

Skates because all of the ones that fit me well and I like have crappy holders and I have to pay more to change them.

or... Sticks because there are too many good ones to choose from.

I'd say shoulder pads because its hard to find, these days atleast, nice, low profile small capped shoulder pads. I always end up taking off the retail caps.

I really dont have a problem with buying new equipment, just hate the time spent getting it broken in! Maybe shinguards, as I got 8090's and they seem a little bulky and I was looking for something a little more on the lite side of things.

i absolutely hate helmets, because my head is wide, but in a deceiving kind of way so the employee always gives me like... medium bauer 4000 or 1052's that literally sit on top of my head and make the both of us look like idiots. also, i can't wear the helmets for a long period of time in the store (1 - 1.5 hours) to see if the fit will give me any problems, and i always end up hurting near the end of a game

I would say skates, cause you can never be sure 100% if you will be fully confortable with them until you hit the ice, and at the price the skates are now, you could be sad a long time if they aren't right.

elbow pads, shoulder pads and mostly shin pads. for me they take for ever to get used to. the positives tho are you dont need them too often and once you get used to them there usually pretty good.... untill new ones are needed again

EDIT: any way we can change this to a poll? (options pants, skates, helmets etc?) just thought it might be interesting to see what the MOST dis-liked piece of new equiipment is with out counting every post, jsut a thought.

elbow pads, I've gone out to buy new elbow pads about 10 times. I've been skating out of net and I only have used two pairs every, the old silver near the top of the line big CCMs and 8025 jofas (I grew to hate too much of a pad with the ccms) I've wanted new ones, but they never fit right.

Skates are pretty bad, but gloves are downright aggrivating. I really can't find anything that feels good on me other than this 3 year old set of mission warp 4's I have. Second set of palms, but I won't give em up till the outer shell is falling apart.

We'll archive that for the "Best Piece of Equipment to Buy and Why" thread currently in pre-production.

For me it's definitely Shoulder Pads.

I can never seem to find a pair that fits properly yet allows the range of motion I like to have.

I've been searching for a long time, but I still revert back to an ancient set of Coopers that are all but ready to disintegrate!..*lol*

I think playing in any league without elbow pads is stupid. When you fall down, thats usually one of the places that you land on the hardest.

Elbow pads because I can never tell if they will fit right after they break in a little. I almost pulled the trigger on NB lightspeed pros that seemed to fit okay but were smalls. I didn't think they would break in enough so I am sticking with my NB ignites from Canadian tire l

Helmets for sure. Until the M11, I've never tried on a single helmet that didn't crush my head. It took weeks to break in new helmets to feel comfortable each time. I know what helmet I'm getting next time.

My first ever intramural game when I got to college, someone went airborne after being hit (non-contact but it's always a little rougher than beer league). They landed right on their elbow, didn't have any elbow pads on. They obviously didn't come back to the game after that one
