If you had to build an NHL team and you could choose one foward, one goalie, and one defensmen to build your team around, who would you pick. Current players only but their age is irrelevant, you would get them at the beginning of their their prime.

D= Lidstrom

F= Forsberg (As Crosby hasn't reached his prime yet, and Forsberg (Without injury) can lay out a hit and can play both ends of the ice. )

D=Pronger and Lidstrom joint (Can't pick between the 2, Pronger with his physical presence and lond reach, and Lidstrom with his high scoring, great skating and Norris Tropheys.)

G=Hasek (The Dominator is a cool name and in his prime posting save percentages of 0.937 is great, also he has like 6 Veznias and Cup experiance)

Forward: Thornton, 97 assists is hard to turn down and if this isn't his a reflection of his prime at least he has proven more than Ovy and Sid

Defence: Lidstrom, on the best unit of the big three but has never really had a comparable vet to fall back on like Nieds and Pronger previously

Goalie: Hasek, best of the generation at winning games on his own and injuries were not a problem back in the mid to late nineties for Buffalo

I went with Ovechkin because hes not even at his prime yet and is still probably the biggest threat in the game right now. Give him teammates and a few more years of development and he should be the hands down choice.

Thornton- It would be Forsberg or Lindros, but injuries really hampered both of them, unfortunately

Leetch - he carried the Rangers for years. It's a shame so much of his effort was wasted in the dark years.

Hasek- Just insane. In his prime he not only stopped pucks consitently, he looked good doing it.

F Crosby - Probably possesses the most potential of any player currently in the league.

D Lidstrom - Smooth, consistent and just a sublime defenseman.

G Brodeur - Can't argue with results, the shots that he gets he stops.
