What's a good price

Recommended Posts

Ok so your saying if you could find a product FAR cheaper somewhere else by as much as $150 you would side against it

All i said was get it while you can which I'm sure would be most peoples views, if a company wants to lower their prices to near cost price then take advantage of that offer

I still stick by my LHS unless i see an offer much below what they have at my ussual place

No, your post said "Hurry and buy everything before they go bust or change their mind."

Slight exageration, but anyway I got an answer to my original question and thats all I wanted

Sorry for going off topic

The name of the shop is Breakaway Hockey in Needham, MA.  The price is not low because they are demos because all the high end skates are selling for far less than any other shop.  With the skates you get a free t-shirt and 10 free sharpenings which is cool

The skates are that price because it's a special they are running (15% off) during the month of August. I heard thier add on the drive home from work.

why are they running a special when august is the busiest time of the month for hockey stores

No clue. You'll have to ask them. Just repeting what I heard on the radio. If I had to guess. I'd say it has something to do with Pure Hockey's side walk sale next weekend.

Well, believe it or not, August is prime time for a sale. Great time to blow out your older stock and not lose too much on it, and it gets people in for your new stock.

So what are you going to do if that shop does go under because the companies stop shipping to them. LHS are obliged to keep prices at a certain level selling around cost is not something the Main companies like to see. I say give it a month and they will be RE-Branded again! as mentioned earlier in this thread!

I mean in some cases we sell for less because we can...but we also have many more young people working than Sog's place but the we still have a place around here that does the same thing ....the only problem is one of the heads of one of the companies has a son working there so they seem to get out of hot water all the time......wich really sucks for the rest of us!

In my view if that shop is going to put those prices out, not buying them yourself will not save them, if you dont take them up on their offer somebody else will, and i myslef stick by my LHS unless theres some really good offer on somewhere else that I can't pass by.

So basicaly I stay by my LHS unless i really need to get a specific item somewhere else

I'd be curious to see their prices come September.

So far price has never been an issue for me at Pure Hockey. In fact, many times they are pretty close...sometimes lower then hockeymoney and epuck. I paid $149.99 for my Warrior Starskie earlier in the year. Hockeymonkey is selling them for $159.00 - add another $9.99 for shipping.

And no I don't work for Pure Hockey. Just a very happy and loyal customer.

It's a brand new shop, so I think they are trying to steal all of Pure Hockey's customers by offering these and all the other top end skates at such low prices.  They also have a rapid fire room that cost 5 bucks a session, but every dollar you spend goes toward the discount on a OPS.  The place is an all around deal

Sounds like this store is willing to slit their throats to stay in business. Shops like that will get busted for underselling product and will get their accounts revoked.

This particular shop is having a grand reopening sale that is supported by the manufacturers. They are offering 15% off all skates during the sale. It's a one time good deal. They have been in business for 40 yrs and have a new name.

I find it funny though that some consider it cutting throats if their prices are low, yet internet sites are cheered for doing the same thing.

Well first off if the prices are below cost how does the manufactuers support that?

If I missed something there then thats fine....

And I for ione do not support the internet guys at all. The company I work for now does very little online. And even at the old place there was much talk on the phone and online before the skates were sold.

JR,

I dont know what the profit margins are in the hockey industry and I trust your word from all that I have read in MSH. My question thow is; Do the manufacturers in this industry price fix or do they just tell you the lowest price you can advertise at? If so it is against the law to price fix (anti trust laws) and they can only suggest a price and not make a dealer sell for any fixed price. Not trying to argue, just curious about this thread.

Thats exactley right. They figure your smart enough to know that if you sell a product below say a 30 ( team sales pricing) margin then basically your just in it to make a couple bucks for your self and not grow the indusrty.

In order to pay rent hydro and such you have to sell it above the 30 margin or you cant pay your bills.

Thats just common business.

So if your selling at or below the 30% mark up (on a regular basis) then thats when the companies get pretty upset.

I think your looking at this too deep, it's just a one time grand opening sale. As soon as the hoopla is over prices will be sky high for sure, plus the dreaded 8% Mass sales tax!

In order for a grand opening to draw a lot of folks, there has to be some deals. And not just deals on last seasons leftovers like some shops have. This shop is just having an across the board sale on all skates in the store. Now that's a pretty good offering. I know I can't offer 15%, I have to pay bills.

If the original poster would've said that it was a sale and not that they ALWAYS sold skates that low, then this this thread would not have been two pages.

Jimmy - read.

Got it. Thanks for the feedback and I totally understand.
