CCM Pro Tacks vs CCM Vector 10

Recommended Posts

Ok.....I asked the question about the Pro Tacks, and I am assuming that no one had any responses about them...so I decided to check them out.

Much to my suprise...they are not that wide in the heel....but they DO have a medium arch and more room in the toebox. They are VERY comfortable, stiff, and look extremely durable. The Armour pro quarter panels also look very durable. I tried on an 8.5 D, to compare them to the Vector 10s. In fact I brought my Vector 10s with me to the LHS so that I could compare the fit. So I tried both Pro Tacks on and then put the Vector on my right foot and the Tack on the left. I then did the opposite.

Here is what I felt:

The heel is narrower than the older 1052s. This skate is NOT as wide as the RBK 9Ks. The arch is medium, but with a pair of Shock doctors felt very very comfortable. The middle of the skate is a medium width....not wide like the RBK. The toecap is roomy but not extremely wide. Comparing it to the feel of the Vector, there was no difference to me in the heel. The boot is a little deeper than the Vector 10 from what I felt. The middle of the boot felt the same, and the toebox of the Vector is a little narrower than the Pro Tacks. The padding on both skates are extermely comfortable, and I would have to say that the differences are so minute, it is really hard to tell them apart other than a lillte more room up front....and of course the looks.

They felt so close in comfort.....I just had to buy them. They are very light, and have that traditional old school Tack look. I really like how stiff they feel, and I cant wait to skate on them on Saturday.

PS - I must admit that oldtrainerguy is right about the Pro Tacks, but it is really hard to tell the differece between the Vectors and the Pro Tacks. I would say that if you like more freedom on top go with the pro Tacks. If you like it a little tighter up front use the Vectors.....but you can't go wrong with either skate. They are both outstanding skates. I plan to use both this year.

Right. Nothing I've seen in the stores comes close to my 1976 Super Tacks!

Noob! :P

Just curioius, but how does the toe cap room in the RBK 9Ks compare to the other two CCM skates? I too found the Vectors to be narrow in the toe cap compared to Tacks, but have never had a chance to try on 9Ks.

Heh!

Are you planning to put a new set of TUUK Lightspeed 2s on those Tacks when the blade goes bad?

:D

9K Toecap seems wide....a little wider than the Pro Tacks, but not by much. The 9K is a boot suited for an NHL sized player with a wide foot. It is a well made skate...just too much skate for me.

so the 9k is less wide than Bauer supreme 8090s, the same width or wider(which i dont think is possible unless width EE)?

I would say it is about the same width in the toebox. I can remember trying on a pair of 8090s....felt like I could ave fit both of my feet into one boot!

The toecap is the same in all models. the diffrence is in the outsole and the side stiffners to make the width feel diffrent. and all of these are wider than an 8090.

Weightwise the Pro Tacks and the Vectors are very light (no scale to give exacts...just going by feel). The RBK 9K feels a little heavier...but it is very hard to tell. The 8090s were pretty light as well. I would say they cant be more than 50-100 grams different between the 4 skates.

We don't sell Vectors in the shop. I did not book the skates. A player just came in with Vector 10s for sharpening. His size 9.5s felt heavy as tanks. If all everyone is interested in is weight, I don't see how this skate gets a high rating in the weight department.

Vector 10s are not tanks. Tanks are Bauer Supreme 7000. And the 7000s are lighter than the Supremes 5000s. I'd also call CCM Externo sseries tanks.

The new 10.0s felt heavier to me than the Pros. They aren't complete bricks though.

Vector 10s are a bit heavier due to reinforcement of weeker points that Vector Pros don't have. Too bad.
