Chadd 916 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Thanks for all the advice. I was checking out the PuckSkin website and it looks pretty cool. I'm going to check if my LHS carries PuckSkin stuff. What size do you wear?
snipeshoww4 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Puckskin is awesome, give it a shot. I have had the same puckskin pants that I wear underneath my gear for almost a year now, and there still in great shape. Not to mention the good job they do.

I didn't like the fact that the pants didn't have a cup or velcro for your socksKonig, if your shop doesn't have them let me know. I have an extra pair of Medium pants here at the house and I don't wear medium.
snipeshoww4 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 True, true, but if your someone like myself who uses a seperate jock with cup to hold up the socks, I think they're great.
gtoddh 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 My vote is for WSI WikMax. I prefer the the loose shirt to the tight fitting one. I wear long pants too. I think having a layer of material between my skin and my gear is pretty much necessary.I believe Under Armor is overpriced and overhyped.I've also got a cheap Russell shirt that is I sometimes wear, but my double-layer WikMax shirt is tops.Never heard of Puckskin, I'll have to check them out... Chadd 916 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 I picked up a sleeveless Russell on closeout for $5 and it's not a bad shirt at all. I'm actually wearing it right now. That extra layer between you and your equipment helps keep it from smelling as bad and helps it last a little longer.

Believe it or not, a lot of shops don't want to carry another brand. Of course those are the shops that just want to sit on their ass and have people come in and just give them money while the employees read magazines or text their friends. Yea, I know, everyone wants the chic brands like UA and all they care about is the UA on the shirt, rather the true performance aspects. It's really hard for companies with good products, but zero advertising to break into hockey stores. I've been very happy with my PS sales.
Iceblade 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 As far as the Puckskin brand... do they offer shirts with the "grippy" type surface on the arms and/or shoulders to keep pads in place? I use the traditional tight UA stuff, but had to go short sleeve with everything since the longsleeves made my gear slip and slide all over. I've been wanting to try the Puckskin stuff, but not if it will slip as much as with the UA.Thanks,Jeff

I did get some funky RBK's in the other day, can't remember what they were called but the were play-dry long sleeves with built-in kidney pads and wrist slash guards and the grippy stuff on the elbows. Iceblade 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 Hmm, man, I can't find anything like that on the RBK hockey site. If you get a chance, can you see if you can find a name or style on them so I can check at my LHS?Do you know if anyone has mentioned ADDING the grip to the elbows to the guys over at Puckskin. I know I got a few emails from Greg McMillan 8 or 9 months ago... but then they abruptly stopped about the time that SalmingUSA was starting to blow out his gear due to the North America pullout of Salming. Thanks,Jeff
BK 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 I just got an underarmor loose fit "like cotton" under tee. I love it. I have always played with a cotton tee under my jersey so the transition was nice. Plus this one doesn't get weighed down when I sweat.
odp 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 All the different brands seem about the same to me - as long as it's not cotton, it's good. Heard good things about the XGO Polarmax clothing though, compared to UA.

I know I got a few emails from Greg McMillan 8 or 9 months ago... but then they abruptly stopped about the time that SalmingUSA was starting to blow out his gear due to the North America pullout of Salming. Jeff, do you recall whether it was Greg McMillan or Greg Beaudin that you had corresponded with?Greg McMillan is the founder/owner of PuckSkin, whereas Greg Beaudin had been one of their distributors. My understanding is he hasn't been involved for about 5-6 months, so it's possible you had been corresponding with him but the emails stopped once he was gone.Regarding the grip to the elbows, I don't know whether they intend to add it. However, PuckSkin is not as slick as many of the other wicking products, so I think your pads wouldn't slip as much.

I don't have the emails here with me at work, as they were sent to my home email account. Thanks for trying to fill in the gaps, though.Regs,Jeff
Leb_CRX 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 why do you guys even bothering using a layer? am I missing something here?I just put the gear in the nude...works for me...I've tried helly hansel under garments for cold weather, made me too hot, adn I've tried under armor type short sleeve shirts, and didn't find it was beneficial...just wondering if there's something I am missing
Patrick67 1 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 I don't use a layer while playing inline, is pointless when it's so hot, but otherwise I use a layer.
cammerz12 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 I have used both underarmor and nike dryfit.. Both were great. The underarmor rode me a little bit and had a tendancy to want to roll up.yeah my under armour shirts rolled up too. i just started tucking them into my hockey pants
SickLife 2 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 for outdoor play, i'm using underarmor cold weather leggings, mock turtle, soccer socks & base layer gloves.for indoor play i just wear the cheap target stuff.for those who have them around, i have seen a fair amount of underarmor products at marshalls & target. i got a few loose fitting things there just to have for under $10.sidenote, if anyone happens to want underarmor navy color cold weather pants (size small) i ordered one after i forgot i bid on one on ebay. so i have a brand new one from footlocker i'd sell for cheap. :)
