willc7786 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 Unreal, just saw that myself. So many jokes/comments could be made about the guy and all his drama, but I just hope he gets help and gets better.

LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 Jesus Christ...just what my 'Boys need. This is the kind of stuff that goes WAAAAAAY beyond football. To some people, maybe. For myself, not-so-much. I realize that this sounds cold and cruel, and most likely pretty ignorant to some of you, but I don't much care for Mr. Owens. He's a great football player (when he wants to be), but, as far as I can see, he's a terrible person and thus does not and will not recieve any sympathy or likewise related attention from me. The world (and football) would probably be better off without him.It doesn't even sound like it was a serious attempt - just more of his "Hey everyone, look at me!!!" dramatic bullshit. I'm beyond sick of this guy.(Memo to T.O.: If you do go anywhere, be sure to bring Bill Romanowski with you. Thanks, buddy.)
mack 44 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 That is unbelievable. I was watching the NFL network basically all night last night and they just referred to him having an "adverse reaction" to medication.

Kinda like when actors have to be checked into the hospital for "exhaustion" or "dehydration", nod nod, wink wink.
KYHockey3 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 i love to.he is one of my favorite football players. last hour, my teacher told me what he did and ii was like WOW, i cant believe it.i honestly dont think to is that bad of a guy. yes he talks smack, but doesnt everyone do that once in a while???i think that he took pills that made him depressed, causing him to do this to himself.
mack 44 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 His being a crappy person has nothing to do with talking smack because no one does it more (or better) than Chad Johnson, but Chad Johnson's not a pile of crap. TO's crappy because even though he says he's all about winning, he's not at all about helping out the team trying to reach that goal. Look at the way he handles his contracts; he's a scumbag. I'm beyond sick of this guy. Do you even know what the hell you're talking about? I don't want to guess as to what exactly the prescription med was, but if it was something like percocet or lortab then it was definitely a serious attempt and he was lucky that EMS arrived as quick as they did and were able to get him to the ED in such a short time. I do, however, take issue with just about everything else that guy does or says (with exception of the Sharpie incident - that I really didn't mind all that much), on or off the field. It's just unacceptable - and it's a shame, because he's a Hell of a football player.

My father was (well - still is, I suppose - I haven't spoken with him since I was 13) suffered from what are called "cluster headaches" (apparently comparable to amputation without any kind of medication - all I know is that my dad is/was the toughest person I ever met and he cried like a little girl when he was hit by these things), and was mentally ill and very abusive, as well.If I had a dollar for every time he "tried" to O.D. on his pain medication (which was some serious, serious shit), I'd probably have about $10 or $15 more in my pocket right now. Officially, they went in the books as "suicide attempts," but in reality, they were simply just actions that underscored his need for the spotlight and to initiate insane amounts of drama.Owens seems to have some very serious mental issues as well. I have seen this kind of shit ruin families, lives and relationships. Like my father, Owens refuses to seek help, which is disappointing, sad, irritating and, moreover, pathetic and cowardly. mack 44 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 Going with the rationale I'd seen used in the Metal/Rap thread, I wonder if TO were white how many people would be calling him emo.

I don't know anything about TO's background growing up, but its very sad how many times we see a very gifted athlete throw it all away due to mental problems. The background of him growing up would be a reference to Theo Fleury, among others.
foppa21 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 You can't characterize T.O. by what you saw in your dad. You've got two totally different people in different situations. And call it what you will, but I equate having to administer ipecac and getting your stomach pumped to a serious attempt.
CHIEF22 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 Nah, it isn't a seroius attempt until it involves inserting the barrel of the weapon into your ear. Until then it's just an attention getter. If a person wants to they will succeed, and it won't just be an attempt.
D3nZ 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 They are saying on Sportsnet that is publicist denied the rumors about the suicide attempt. Dallas police is supposed to have a news conference later.

And call it what you will, but I equate having to administer ipecac and getting your stomach pumped to a serious attempt.I was exposed to this kind of thing for the vast majority of my life to this point. It sounds to me as though T.O. might have the same kind of issues my father has/had - the need for attention, the drama-queen mentality, the lack of motivation (my father probably could have played professional baseball, or become an author, or a career military man, but he never had the dedication to do anything with his life), the denial and the extremely self-destructive behavior. To my knowledge, T.O. has never had any issues with domestic violence, so my dad at least has that on him... I'm coming to my own concusion based upon what I have seen and the NUMEROUS similarities that I can draw between the two different situations. You're right, they're not the same person - but you'd be surprised how many people there are in the world who have the exact same issues.
