All these people taking the games for granted. Here in Australia, we don't even get it broadcasted, if I want to watch the NHL, I have to watch team highlights on their websites or pay for cable.

oh, wait, that's St. Louis, isn't it.

Whoopsie..

Sorry, I dont watch NHL, I only keep up with college.. Regardless, I would still absolutely love going to an NHL game.

Anyways, I guess its like that for every sport. I went to the BYU vs Utah State football game last week and I kid you not, I think the girl behind us thought she was at a baseball game. Her Johnny-jockstrap boyfriend was yapping his mouth off about the plays.. Every time we there was a tackle, he would in a loud obnoxious voice say "BAM!".. no matter how hard the hit was, he would say it like somebody is going to have to be wheeled off the turf. As if this wasn't good enough, he would disect every play and try to explain it to his date who couldn't give a rats ass about what was going on... she had her face plastered into her blinged out sidekick texting some other guy.

Some people shouldn't go to sporting events.. period.

I remember last season, we managed to figure out 3 different types of fans. There were the "friends/family".. You knew these people because they were screaming somebodies name.. its the only name they know, and its the only name they scream.. 2nd you have the "I want to look cool for my date so we went to a hockey game" type of people. The guy usually loses all his game when the locker room doors open and the girl starts gagging from the aroma.. Hard to get your tongue down a girls throat when shes about to toss her cookies.. lol. Last are the people who you see every week. You see them in the stands and you give them a nod and they nod back. They are the only people who go to your away games and the guys who get the stick when it breaks and you toss it into the stands after the game.. You dont know their name, they probably dont know yours.. but thats the great thing... they didn't come to see you.. Nobody forced them.. They aren't there for the expensive food/drinks or the social part.. they are there to enjoy a hockey game.

I've had front row seats at the glass a few times and it is pretty hard to get bored when pucks are whipping by your head. The only possible time you might get distracted is when the play is constantly in the far corner that you can't see because the glass is in the way.

Skybox seats on the other hand are a completely different story. I sat in a center ice box once when a friend got tickets from work. Sure the seats are more comfortable, there are couches and TVs, and food and drinks are served, but the seats are so separated from the action that most of the people around me were not even watching the game. They were just there for the social aspects and enjoying the extra comforts.

I would definitely rather sit up close to the action.

Some people are there mostly for the social interaction, they talk to the other season ticket holders and the game is secondary to them. Often, people use their company's season tickets. These people usually end up in the better seats and a lot of the more rabid fans end up sitting upstairs or in the corners.

ACC in Toronto described to perfection.

You really need to find a hobby if you need to put this much time and effort into bitching about what people do at games.

I went to the Islanders-Devils game tonight and I sat 3 rows from the ice. But it was extremely hard to even watch the game. There was a lady and about 4, 10 year old kids that would not shut up. The lady would constantly get up and move her seat and come back blocking my view standing up and then the kids would do the same except they would go up to the glass and bang on it for no reason. Then the Ref tried to shut them up by throwing a puck over, but that did not work at all since one kid just used the puck to bang on the glass and while doing this they would scream Elias to try to get his attention.

People need to learn that you go to a hockey game to watch it, nothing else.

I've sat in the purple seats (about 10 rows from the ice) at MSG a few times (company seats/snuck down in first intermission/etc.) and every time I was there I felt like I wasn't allowed to cheer or pay any attention to the game. It didn't stop me, but it kinda sucks when nobody around you cares about what's happening on the ice.

I want to see like 5-10 MSHers with front row tickets and just checking the players' equipment :) "Dude, hes sporting the new bauer skates!" "Yeah, Vapor XXXX rule, but have you seen the stick over there?"

i live in ky, so not very much hockey around here.

i have been to 2 nhl games. one, was was during roys last sason, we sat right behind the avalanche bench. it was awsome that i got to be soo close to these amazing people!!(i even got a puck from 1 of them)

my other nhl game was mark messiers last game. we were right behind the bench. his parents and family were standing in front/ near us mostly the whoel game, it was great!!

at both of these games i had complete attntion on the puck and the action, i didnt fart around with my cell phone or play musical chairs. i believe a true fan would pay attention about 95% of the time.

I realize that teams need to attract new fans and some people consider some games to be snoozers but I'm not crazy about the circus atmosphere at games.

I remember back in the day no body would dare leave their seat until a whistle blew and then they would sprint to where ever they were going. And they waited until another whistle to get back in their seat. If the game resumed before they got back to their seat they would crouch down in the steps until the next whistle.

Guess I'm getting old and boring.

Allow me to be sexist for a moment. Many (not all) women who go to hockey games aren't really that into the game. They are being nice and attending because their significant other enjoys the game. Guys, if you find a woman who loves hockey, and I mean really likes hockey, stick with her. It doesn't matter how pretty she is, she's a keeper.

My girlfriend loves watching hockey, and I even got her reading hotrod this past summer :)

Look long and hard enough, and you'll find they do exist

Over the last couple years, I have turned my girlfriend onto hockey and, more recently, college football. She loves skating with me (she now has much more respect for what we do, boys), she's begging me to take her next time Jersey is in town and she's starting to learn the words to "The Victors."

To be fair, I've tried watching "Project Runway" but just haven't been able to do it.

Wife still couldn't care less about hockey but at least doesn't gripe about that. College basketball is something else though and I fear watching a game with her in the same room.

Shame, gets me to more games than if the Mrs. didn't care for the game. The down side is for some weird reason she's a Devils fan. Funny thing, we met at a bar the night Messier made good on his game 6 promise.

Your wife's a very wise woman.

Since we moved we just picked up season tix for the college here. She got basketball and I got hockey. I think we'll just end up taking my brother unless I troll for co-eds.

Yup, but it's about as good as you can imagine. They used to be NAIA but I think they're D-II or III now. Their only saving grace is the Great Alaska Shootout and the teams they attract for that tourney.
