Worst Skater

Recommended Posts

i went to see the olilers practice a few years ago when there were here in MN the day before they played the Wild. Georges Laraque (sorry if i botched the spelling) is simply painfull to watch. i was amazed at the simple fact that someone who skates like that can even play in the NHL.

There are a lot of NHL skaters that have horrible technical form. The odd thing is that although they skate technically poorly, they still fly around on the ice (and are in the show)! So what does "worst skater" really mean?

I think the only definition of "worst skater" in the show is one who always shows up at the puck last!

Dennis Bonvie if he ever makes it back up.

When you're a sideshow that loses every fight, you aren't making it back to the NHL.

I might be tempted to say Jagr. Just his form though. Really good player besides that.

Jagr? I guess it must be his great hands that allow him to hold onto the puck forever if you think he can't skate. Find the video from the Pens/Blackhawks Cup Final where he skated off the halfboards(this was long before halfboards ever became some hockey term) and proceeded to deke and stickhandle past 4 of the 5 skaters on the ice before scoring a goal on Belfour. The 5th skater couldn't catch Jagr because he was busy watching the guy on the far point.

He did not say Jagr is slow, he has simply said that his skating form was weird. As much as I like Jagr, his skating form is not the best. He seems a bit awkward on the ice.

It's known that Jagr trains with a 25 pound vest in the summer, and it seems like it messed up his form. If you watch him skate, he skates like he's carrying extra weight. (Don't quote me on this, it's just my theory)

Michael Ryder isn't a great skater (in relation to the "great" NHL skaters)...neither was Dave Andreychuk.

Ryan Smyth in Edmonton...he gets to the front of the net and stays there. You won't see an end to end rush from Moo-lay.

I don't doubt that he does that, but I don't think it messes up his form either. It's his style and always has been. Keeps him strong along the boards and helps his endurance

Yeah like I said, just my theory.

seems like an interesting theory.

One guy I've seen who is not a goon but still blows is Taylor Pyatt. That guy has the ugliest skating style I've ever seen. I can't even describe it, but it's the equivalent of seeing Ovechkin swing a golf club.

most sprint coaches won't use more than ~5% of an athletes weight while sprinting as to not damage thier form by having too much extra weight. I would imagine something similar is true for hockey.
