tell me WHY?

There is no room for compassion in professional sports. Nobody who is anybody has any feelings for their opponent. That is Lesson #`1. How do you think any of those guys got there in the first place? By caring about the guy they are lined up against at any point in any game they ever played in? I don't think so.

You need to show respect. The Sabres didn't, and it'll come back to them eventually. It always does. If there's no room for compassion, why is everyone so upset that I suggested Hatcher or one of the other bigger Philly players step up and send a message?

EasyB,

Please ask one of your connections in the Show what he would do playing on either team last night? If your connection was on the Sabres, would he have kept the petal to the metal or let up? If your connection was on the Flyers, would he have stepped up and made a physical statement? I think you underestimate the competitive drive and desire of the professional athlete. Those men are at that level because they take no prisoners every step of the way. If you're on bottom end of 6zip after one, suck it up. If you're on the top of 6zip after 1, how many more we can we get tonight? Respect for your opponent in the pros? There is a certain level of respect but there is also desire to totally demoralize the other team. You just witnessed it.

Not respecting your opponent opens the door to needless injuries. Getting players upset leads to aggression, whether it be bigger or questionable hits... or fights. If you show the other team up and then get hurt because of it.... you get what you deserve. Not that I would advocate intentionally hurting someone, but I tend not to feel as bad when that is the result of more aggressive play that they brought onto themselves.

These guys are professionals. Just take your ass-whooping like a man. If you want to go for the big hit, fine, be my guest. If you want to challenge a guy to fisticuffs because he raised his stick after goal 6, power to you. If you want to cry about a lack of respect, grow a pair because if the tables were turned you know damn well that Hitch wouldn't have instituted the 5 pass rule or backhands only.

So you're saying it's ok because Hitch would've done the same? Nice job.

I'd be pissed if the Flyers were up by a ton and Forsberg got hurt because of it.

Then again, I generally don't like to humiliate people.

And show me where I said intent to injure was ok. Going for the big hit and trying to hurt someone are two different things.

Hell, I find more wrong by this quote by Richard than what the Sabers did last night....
"Typical Philadelphia Flyers hockey game there. We got behind the eight ball, we had a little bit of pressure on us, and we folded."

That says a lot about the team. Is Hitch fired before or after Clarke?

Glad to see you are reading Dr. Suess for bed-time stories for the little one.

No, just some Dr. Seuss books but I'll keep an eye out for this guy's books too.

Better be after from Clarke's comments against the Quinn firing.

Then again, you're not in the Show where its kill or be killed.

I didn't realize becoming a professional athlete didn't include human decency.

Cry me a river. If Flyers players are so hurt they can talk to the team pshrink. You didn't see anyone hear whining about the Panthers stomping the Bruins 8-3.

Yeah, you tell 'em, Steve-Dave! Then again, I'm sure the Bruins are just more accustomed to being involved in those kinds of losses.

Are Philly fans allowed to make comments like that?

I kid I kid
