I was thinking of getting a new media player and was looking at the Zune. I was wondering if any of you guys had one or know somebody that does. Looking for some input on how it is.

Itune's-ish software needed to put songs on your zune is notorious for locking your computer, hard reset that doesn't always work, freezes when playing video and 95% of the album art looks awful because it has to be resized to fit the weird resolution of the zune (that is unless you purchase the album from their store).

I think I will stick with the ipod video I have waiting under the tree from my wife.

Yea mainly since it doesn’t work with iTunes and you get the music legally you would have to use Microsofts iTunes rip Zune market place. Which is manly a different looking iTunes with more bugs and glitches.

So the zune is bigger, supports less, dosent even have a scroll wheel (even though they stole the form factor), has poor video, is ugly, and is from MS. Surrre go for the zune... if you want crap. Wait out the 6G ipod.

6G iPod won't be any time soon. I'd guess 2nd quarter '07 at the earliest since the 5.5G iPod video came out in September.

They could possibly bring the iPod Video (as in 'real' ipod video) in january at their next expo (macworld or keynote, forgot which one).

Also, the zune is BROWN. enough said.

Theres a lot of fuss over the "iphone". Its pretty much a full hard drive phone and ipod in one (unlike the VERY crappy flash mp3 player/phones that sport the itunes label).

It was just a guess based on when the last revision came out, no secret inside sources or anything. I was thinking Jan/Feb 07 but thought that if that was the case they would have just done a holiday release of it so kids would ask for it for Christmas. Though MacWorld is a possibility in mid Jan. If an iPhone is next on the lineup hopefully it comes out before I sell my soul for another 2 years.. er.. get a new phone/contract.

seems like Microsoft is trying to bandwagon hop. im betting the zune wont be acceptable until the 2nd or 3rd iteration (just as ipod and others). If you are looking for an ipod alternative, check out any of Creative's players.

Does anybody know if like Ipod the Zune will only be able to be updated on one computor unless you wipe out the harddrive on it and start again?

iPhone should drop at the Mac Expo in Jan, but ive heard it wont be available till the end of May.

The new things i have heard is that it will be Unlocked, so you can use it on any network that you would like. This is primarily so they can keep everything about the phone the way they want it, and rake 100% profits.

That is not true anymore with the ipod. As long as you are an autorized user (you can authorize up to 5 computers) you can put those songs onto your ipod.

in regards to the iPhone being unlocked, that sounds like a good business standpoint, as they make 100% of the profit. but how many service providers will support such a popular product if its unlocked. cell phone service providers live and die off of the multi-year contracts that make phones available at a reasonable price

If it is unlocked that means that cell phone providers will not offer it. It will be up for sale from apple. Apple has made plenty of money selling 400 dollar ipods, I am sure people will not mind spending that on an Apple phone.

yes but you'll have to purchase service from a provider. i know unlocked phones are widely available right now, but if a product as big as the iPhone comes to the market, you know that a service provider is going to be paying apple ridiculous amounts to be an exclusive carrier. i just cant see it being released as an unlocked phone.

It makes more sense for it to be sold to a carrier, but it dosent seem like something Apple would do.
