How many people have multiple sets of gear?

Recommended Posts

I've been seeing a lot of gear at close out prices recently, and I've been thinking about getting some things to use as alternates or save for the future. Has anyone else done this? Right now I'm thinking about another set of protective Jofa pads that I saw at a S.A. Good idea or waste of money?

Nothing wrong with picking up equipment now for the future, but there may be something in the future that you asee that "you gotta have"

Still, if it's on closeout and something that isn't made anymore, and you use/like it, it's not a bad Idea. A friend of mine has like 5 pairs of Easton Z Air Pro Comp SE skates, and will never need to buy skates again.

When Pure Fly's started showing up on ebay for $99 I bought a second pair and wore them at practice (I'm a coach) to break them in.

A couple weeks ago during one of my beer league games one of my holders was shattered by a slap shot and I was glad I had the second pair ready to go.

I also have a second helmet and pair of gloves that stay in my coach bag.

3 pair of skates, another pair of boots, half a dozen pair of gloves, etc... the closet is full of old gear or stuff that I don't like anymore.

oh man, you know what sort of responses you're going to get with this thread? haha.

nothing wrong with owning extra equipment. especially if you play multiple nights a week. I have 3 sets of shin pads, 3 pairs of gloves, 2 pairs of skates, 2 helmets, 2 girdles (one roller, one ice).... I played last night, and I set my stuff in my spare room to dry and it's still wet.... so I'm gonna pack a bag of my spare stuff to play tonight.

O.K., so I just got back from Sports Authority. Evidently, the stuff was marked down from the original marked down price. I got a pair of Jofa 7500 shoulders for $20.62, Jofa 7500 elbows for $13.62, and a pair of Jofa 6550 gloves for $20.62. Overall I'd call that a worth while shopping trip.

I'm going to get another pair of shin pads. My current pair is beat to hell from using them for broomball and street hockey and will become backup.

I wouldn't mind a second pair of gloves since my current one aren't the greatest and are really loose (my hand doesn't stay in very well)

If I end up reffing next year, I'll get a second helmet with a visor so I don't need to change the cage.

Second pair of skates.... just in case (even though they're too big, they still fit well enough to use)

My son is really picky about the feel of his equipement.I know when he likes something, because he wears it and never mentions it again! To make him try something new is hell so I sometimes buy the next size up as he is still growing (or was). Therefore,he has 2 pair of Bauer 6000 pants(L and XL) 2 Nike V-12 shinpads in 14&15".This is in addition to different gloves and helmets for different teams.

I'm a bit picky about my gear, so when I find something I like I want to stick with it as long as possible. I check ebay regularly to snag old mission proto skates. I finally found a pair of gloves that feel right, so I bought another spair pair. They'll get used within a few years. I've also got a lot of old gear and some stuff i need to sell off eventually. Nothing wrong with having a few extra sets of gear. :)

Been thinking about this idea - I play 7 times a week (5 days) - so gear is never really dry - but I just have always thought that if the skates (for example) are perfect fit then why would I ever put on the back-up pair..?

I don't have the money for more then one set, I would have to sacrifice too much in terms of getting used to each set it wouldnt feel right. Plus I don't have enough ice times each week to warrant a second set.

I dont have a complete set of extra gear but I do have 2 pairs of gloves, 2 pairs of skates, 2 pairs of pants and 2 helmets. I often wear one set in practice and the other in games. This allows my equipment to fully dry out, and my equiopment lasts longer.

I play every single day of the week, and sometimes I play a couple games on one day too. So I use two elbow gaurds that I like, two shin pads that I like and Im about to get a new jock. Its getting really old putting on a wet jock.

Also, I forgot to add that we keep a spare set of gear in my van. Teammates like it too, forget something, just have my dad run out to the van. Have at least one of every peice of equiptment and its all almost brand new.

Gee Indaslot, your kid should meet my kid. Sounds like they have an identical attitude about gear; mine resists trying anything and everything new.

My kid won't even look at it in the store... sob... And tries real hard not to let me look at it, because having your parent beg you to "please try this on it looks really cool" is just SO embarassing.

Doesn't want to know about the features etc., it all comes down to whether it feels good, or not. And it is impossible trying to change something until the original piece is hopelessly too small or has absolutely fallen apart.

It is hard to live vicariously through your kid when they won't co-operate. If I only had a kid that was into gear....LOL

the wet gloves and the wet jock are the only things that really bug me, so i keep 2 of each in the locker room. i have 2 more pairs of gloves at home

(just ones i couldnt get used to) and a spare helmet in the locker room in case a bitchy ref doesn't like my modifications to mine ; ). ive got spare shoulder pads at home but they are the big bulky easton ones and i just couldn't move in them, sort of a waste of 120 bucks i guess.

I have 1 1/2 sets of player gear because I play pickup roller(unorganized outdoor).

I have two helmets(and one coming in the mail).

Two sets of shin guards

Two pairs of gloves

Two sets of elbows

I almost bought some mission flyweight skates used(in pretty good shape) for $99. I'm pretty weary of buying used skates so i didn't buy them. I try to not go overboard with buying stuff because I'm saving up for a new car but the one thing I have the hardest time not buying is sticks. I bought another one yesterday, so that makes 14 in total, including unused shafts and my goalie sticks.

2 sets of inline gear & 2 sets of inline gear. 3 sets of each if you count my wife using my older gear I upgraded out of, he he he. Did I hear (or read) someone say gear whore? Sorry, I'm guilty. My wife is really po'ed at my 4 pairs of Ice skates, and 6 pairs on Inline skates.

All Missions, I have to have all the skates fealing the same. Justin did you hear me, 10 pairs of missions skates + Ice and Inlines for wife and 2 daughters. 18 total pairs of Mission skates, (no wonder she's pissed, I've never counted them before).

At least I've used up most of my sticks. Once I had 2 stealths, 2 synergies, 3 Z-bubbles, and 2 XN10's. I had to sleep on the couch until I broke half of them. lol...
