Worst NHL Team?

Recommended Posts

Who is the worst NHL team? Blues, Blackhawks, Coyotes, Flyers? Other? Who will it take the longest to get out of their current condition of crap?

I don't think this is a question you can really answer that well. Philly has a shitty record, but they play in a good division. Same can be said about Phoenix. Chicago is 11th in the West, so numbers wise there are four teams worse than them. Still, I don't understand how someone can objectively say one team is the worst. Are you talking about having the worst players? The worst performing? Worst management?

Flyers.. their defense is ridiculously bad. Just after watching the Flyers/Pens game last night it amazes me how many times players were alowd to walk in from behind the net without a problem, even getting shots off.

Its actually starting to remind me of the Tom Poti-Brian Leetch days of the Rags. Both of them would always chase the puck behind the net and leave a man wide open in front.

Some team will be the worst. Their record will award them that distinction. I agree with Easyb on the Blues. I didn't realize how bad they were until I checked their roster. There is nothing there to even build on. How does GM Pleau keep his job after putting together this mess? Philly may play in a good division and have some talent up front. Their blueliners suck. Thank you Bob Clarke. Still, if the Flyers don't compete, which they don't a lot of nights(check their shots on goal totals), then they are as bad as their record. The Blackhawks just can't get anything right. Someday.... I mention the Coyotes because they are one of those teams that even when they play a good team on NHL Center Ice TV package, I can't stand to watch them. There is too much sugar in Darren Pang's coffee and to watch Gretzky have to run that Titanic into the NHL iceberg every night is just too painful. How guys like Roenick and Owen Nolan convince any GM to sign them is beyond me.

I agree that the Blues suck, but wasn't the roster purposely gutted to facilitate the sale of the team?

At times the Lightning. They play like they just don't want it, I blame it on poor coaching.

But the consistant worse team in the NHL? STL

Blame their D-core. Aside from Boyle they are very thin. Kuba may be the only other NHL calibre D-man back there. Neither of them are good enough to anchor a D-core either. Boyle is good, but he's not really an impact player. Match that with average goaltending and it explains alot of the Lightning's troubles.

The goaltending has been fantastic, the defense has been horrible about letting guys come in backdoor, not clearing rebounds, pinching at the wrong time. Denis has given up a couple of head shakers this season but besides that the rest of the goals he hasn't had a chance on, same goes for holmqvist. Boyle is an offensive defenseman, Kuba is being turned into an offensive defenseman, Sarich and Pratt are average, Ranger is playing like a rookie(which he wasn't doing last year, his rookie year) and Janik is a traffic cone. The big three are producing and we have a couple young guys(and Perrin) that skate their asses off. But we also have Feds who's not playing too well and Prospal that either hits the goalie in the chest or shoots 10 feet wide. It's not looking too good for the Lightning as a team right now, they look like individuals not a team.

The play by play guy sounds like he's doing a horse race. I can't watch more than half a period of him.

Oh god tell me about it!.I've had to listen to that man for the past several years...one of the reasons I now have season tickets.

I actually don't mind Pang at all.

Tortarella is known as an in your face guy, which can work for a while. Do you think its the start of the end, with the players beginning to tune him out now?

The only thing wrong with Tampa was letting Khabibulin go just to sign the "Big three" thinking they could actually field a competitive team in the process. Trade Lecavalier, hell trade St. Louis if you can get a few decent prospects in return. Just rebuild the team around Richards and a quality goalie.

Actually the big three are playing well, Richie is just now getting on track. Our issues is our lines being changed too much, the big three getting 25+ mins a night, most of which is early in the game and the lack of stay at home defensemen. Oh yeah and a powerplay, odd that we had one a month or so ago but it must have gotten lost with some bags in the airport.
