Jagr's CCM OPS

Recommended Posts

When your father is an NHL linesman, he may come home some nights with some pretty neat stuff. Pat's son had Jagr's broken CCM Vector 10 OPS from the Islander/Ranger game on Tuesday night. He showed us the stick in the shop before practice last night. The OPS has snapped high in the shaft near the butt end. The stick was still over 48" long. Some interesting things about the stick: It was not labeled Pro Stock on the under side. It had all the 30 day warranty info. The top side of the shaft did have J. Jagr printed on it. About the curve: check out Koivu's pro stock curve and then add more curl to the toe. The blade was straight for about 85% but the last 15% to the toe had a wicked curl/hook to it. The most unusual thing about the blade was not the bottom but the top. The top of the blade was as thick as the bottom. There was no taper of the blade face to make it thinner at top. The top of blade was the thickest I have ever seen. The length of the blade was also a bit shorter than standard. With his ridiculous puck control, the shorter blade must give less for defencemen to swat at. The shaft was "Stiff." It was pretty cool to see Jagr's twig.

I believe a shorter blade length would increase puck control I don't think it has anything to do with giving defencemen less to swat at someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Kind of not really!! It reminded me of one of those old 70s CCCP toe curves that the Red Army guys used on Torspo sticks. It looked like something you would just flick the puck off the toe with to roof it.

I wonder what effect the size of the blade (height) has on the shot

I remember I once had a KOHO Revolution with a plastic blade that made a nice banana curve over a BBQ and then wore it's self down to a tooth pick and shots with that could clear most houses in ball hockey, I remember how pissed off I was when that broke!

DS-50 How open/closed was the blade?

There was no loft to the blade at all. Standard Vector logo graphics design on shaft except it was spray painted black down low on the shaft to the heel.

A couple of years ago in a Canucks game I was watching, the colour commentary guy was talking about Artem Chubarov filing down his blade to make it shorter, his explanation was that he felt he could release the puck quicker with a shorter blade. Not that it helped him much....DS50's explanation makes sense too though.

Oh..also, was it a straight vector 10 or was it just a paint job?

I'm not sure it was spray paint, I have noticed a lot of players have that as far down as echl, I think it may be from heat, IE torch or heat gun, would it make it stiffer? or are you infact right about the spray paint? anyone know?

Every Jagr game-used stick/blade I've seen has been painted. Not to say he doesn't torch it at all but the black comes from the paint.

About the CCCP toe curves:

I saw a Vector8.0 (Standard) RB a coulpe of days ago, belonges to a russian player pro player (unknown) and labeled "CCCP".

Does CCM have a blade pattern named CCCP, or just him being creative?

A lot of NHL players spray paint the lower portion of the shaft. Apparently they don't like looking down the shaft and seeing the change in colour. That was the reason TPS started having a black top-side of the shaft (see XN10).

I don't think any blade Jagr has ever used has been legal. Like my women, they're all barely legal (if not illegal altogether - the blades I mean).

I was at a Hartford Wolfpack game recently right near the Phantoms player bench and all of the CCM/RBK sticks had the 30 day warranty info on the back.

Yeah, i own two 10.0 Pro Stock OPS' and both got the 30 day warranty print and the barcode-sticker. Plus a "custom" nameplate. But hey, who cares actually?
