Ovechkin forced to change visor

Recommended Posts

So i was watching the Sports Highlight this morning and watching the highlights from the Devils/Caps game, and apparently Brodeur didn't approve of Ovie's tinted visor, so the NHL forced him to change.

Anybody else catch this? I didn't see a topic on it, but what are your thoughts.

This was a bit of a while ago. Brodeur didn't like how he couldn't see the players eyes with the mirrored visor, so marty, being the president of the w.e group..had a vote, and they decided to have a rule that states you can't use a mirrored visor.

Patrick67, Marty totally owned AO on a few shots..especially on in the second..open net and marty did an amazing save and got it.

I think you should be able to wear the mirrored visor for certain reasons like in the NFL. For example, LaDanian Tomlinson wears his tinted mirrored visor because he gets migraines easily. Anything other than that is just starting a fashion statement.

Theo, I do agree he may complain a bit..but it's not that much. I mean, other than this, what else has he complained about that we carried on with, this and guys in the crease was it.

But to defend him, when you get shots coming at you at 100mph+..you atleast want to see their eyes.

He's pretty well against anything that might take an advantage away from himself. The only reason he was infavour of smaller equipment was because he didn't use big goal equipment and it was no difference to him.

Brodeur is my favorite goalie in the league. I do not agree with him though, Ovechkin should be able to wear whatever visor is legal for play. Although, I feel Brodeur has the right to bitch as much as he wants. The trapizoid really hampers his amazing puckhandling skill, guys like Tucro, Dipietro and Broduer have every right to be pissed off.

What if ovey always shot with his head down, granted he doesnt but what if he did that, then broduer still wouldn't be able to see his eyes, he should stop whyning and worry about stoping the puck regardless of what the player does, and isn't a goalie taught to watch the puck not the players eyes...shady business to me

What about Kopitar? Or is up to the opposing team in each game to judge if they want to complain?

Kopitar uses a tinted visor, not mirrored.

Brodeur is a great goaltender....hall of famer first ballot for sure...

But this whole thing is really lame. Most skilled players do not telegraph their shots anyway, so I don't see how a tinted visor does ANYTHING with respect to a player's eyes. Most people I play with practice shooting using peripheral vision. It is a ridiculous argument at the level of the NHL. Now that minors are mandating half shields...are we going to see the same thing. Soon, we will hear tinted visors are out.

A person with a mirrored visor has quite a bit of an advantage over someone who doesn't.

Then you can look around and not have to worry about making sure your eyes are looking the opposite way of where you want the puck to go, exspecially when theres a man infront of you or when you are in on a break-away.

i'd complain alot if i looked like a damn leprechaun too.

he's just pissed because he's going to be exposed as a mediocre goaltender without an incredible defense and the trap in front of him.

As simple as your example sounds, I think I have to agree with you. Marty's just complaining because he can. What's next? Take away black tape because it hides the puck too much? C'mon. This game is starting to get a little ridiculous. Today I read about the renewed interest in enlarging the nets. Stupid.

Maybe Marty's being so moody because he's running out of sisters-in-law
