What team are you on?

This belongs in General Hockey Discussions maybe, as it has nothing to do with Ice Hockey Equipment

I played college last season. This season I am just on a company house league. Next season I am transferring to BYU so I'm going to try out with them.

This might be the thread to ask a basic question. Many of you know my daughter plays competitive girls' hockey which is, I'm told, equivilent to travel teams. (The boys' hockey camps always say to tick off the travel team box on the application form).

In boys' hockey, what is the distinction between competitive teams and travel teams?

Travel teams go all over the place. A competitive team could be like an in-house team, where they only travel to certain rinks. My team goes all over New Jersey to play, and even PA and DE.

Well a travel team IMO is a lot more serious and about politics than a competitive team. Some of the guys playing competitive are playing for fun or don't have the money to shell out for travel. I, well, my parents haha, pay close to five grand USD a year for me to play hockey. Travel is all about going to Nationals and winning a championship.

Thanks Ebondo... so a boy's AA competitive team is the same competitive level as an AA traveling team? Just more gas?!

Around here, it's harder to get on a travel team. The in-house team is kind of the fall back for players who aren't quite up to par for "showing off". There are a lot of kids too who really don't want to be on a travel team because of school etc too.

Travel is also really pricey.

A beerleague team in my city called "HighSticks"... This year we don't play any "real" games at all because there wasn't enough teams to start a league this year.. Now we only play practice games against the Junior-18 team from our city..
