Trip down memory lane

Recommended Posts

not all that well, instead of allowing you to cut sharper and ice stop they usually left you on your butt. At least for those of us above the 175 lb mark they did. It also felt like skating over the grates you'd find on the sidewalk. A funny little curiousity, but not all that effective in the end. I bought a set to try and promptly buried them in a box of stuff that I have no idea what happened to.

it really made me think of some of the other oddities you don't see too much of anymore. Konki frames with 4 or 5 wheel options. The wheels with tread patterns. Volcanix wheels with aluminum hubs. Rike Titanium frames.

HAHA So they're idea is to make a slippery part to the wheel, sounds a bit pointless to me, as much as people want to mimic ice skating in roller who wants the added slip?

so out of curiosity i googled them and I found these

http://icewheels.net/technology.html

anyone try these before? looks like the center strip thing is tilted and stuff.

They sponsored a team in the area and my friend got a hold of some. They stop nicely and feel more like your on ice sort of. But the wheel is soft and slow so getting up to speed on them is hard.

The Konki frames had holes so that you could use 4X76mm or 5X59mm (I believe) so that you could have either. I've seen one person still on them all these years later with a pair of old tacks boots. Humongous, strong guy too, so they definitely hold up.

Memory lane is around the corner in a time warp. Last year I saw at least 100 pairs of Sure Grip frames that refused to die. Refs seem to be particularly RETRO that way. And they're still a beer league standard. I keep a pair to remind me how tough a product can really be. All 76s. What a great idea!!!!!

But getting those damned round plastic spacers to balance long enough to slip your wheel in was always a pain. I'm glad we've come beyond that point.

I remember ads about skates with frames where you didn’t need any tools to get the wheels off if I am correct. I only have ever seen one person on them and that was a ref.

so last nigth watching the game before I played brought back a couple more, leave it to the 28 and Older league to have the throwback gear. One guy rolling around on old Bauer H series with the Tuuk 7000 frames, I remember those being the coolest back in the day because they were one of if not the only good skate you didn't have to build (ahh NBH where did you go wrong?). And then about five minutes later I noticed something that really took me back, but took me a second to realize what I was seeing.

Fila hockey skates. Not Fila fitness inlines, but the actual hockey skate they made for a year or so.

By todays standards they're sort of average looking, but I remember when they came out everybody thought they were the most outlandish pieces of crap you could ever lay eyes on.

I play on the top that was "sponsored" by ice wheels as hoffer said. He gave everyone on the team a set of wheels. The owner is a great guy, however, his product isn't that good. The wheels are the slowest things that I have ever been on. It truly affected your game. Some of our guys are on the video section of their website and as you can plainly see you slide more than stop. That is actually a disadvantage when trying to cover someone. We knew that these wheels would hurt us at the major tournaments, so therefore we offered to send them back and cancel our sponsorship with them. The owner allowed us to keep the wheels we already used.

imo quickchange frames were a pos.

in one of our games a kids foot into the boards with these frames on, the wheels all popped off and bounced around like bouncy balls. it was really funny because we saw him go into the boards and then all 4 wheels on his skate came off
