If this was on anything but ATT's network, this would be the best thing ever. The fact the Edge network is about as fast as a 56k connection is laughable. Why have this phone that can do all this fun shit, and have it be so slow?

Then, they're probably Apple kool-aiders. The network has been the subject of a lot of tests. It took two minutes in tests for yahoo.com to fully load.

According to dslreports I am currently getting 234 Kbps

Exactly, the average cable modem connection is 6Mbps, that's roughly 6000Kbps. It's about 24 times slower than cable internet. Pretty pathetic.

Geez, have things changed, I remember the 56k days where I could click a link and go downstairs get something to eat and when I got back up it was almost fully loaded. I think you guys are forgeting that this thing is a phone, hence the name "iPhone."

Yeah for all the talk that people are shocked this thing isn't 3G, I think Apple made the right trade offs.

Jobs said if they went 3G they would have sacrificed battery life and size. If they did that people would have bitched the battery didn't last long enough and it's too bulky. Since this thing truly is a phone first, I think battery life and size are most important.

What I have experienced on edge is "acceptable" but its converging on annoying as fuck. Its slow... yes. I am not the kind of person who is going to be browsing sites 24/7 so this dosent bother me too much. If i need to look something up its quick enough. It is not fast enough to be browsing multiple content heavy pages though.

and no 3g network is that fast soooo I guess thats pathetic too

if I've read correctly... I believe the iPhone kicks over to wi-fi if it's detected. I may be wrong..

I dunno, I feel used. I've been a long-time Mac enthusiast, I've owned 4 ipods, 3 Macs... and I can't even get an iPhone right now. I was hoping with new registration at AT&T, you'd be able to be billed for a new device, just like any other plan/carrier... but nope, must have cash in hand. Being out of work for the last 7 months has made it next to impossible for me.. queue the sad music. haha I even went and tortured myself by popping into the Apple store today to have a lookie at it.

Anyways, enjoy guys!

I don't really mind it but as much as I love this, I think I'd rather have something like this but without the phone part. Not to jizz all over Apple or anything, but this thing is awesome and worth what's surely viewed as a bloated price.

I just grabbed one last night, and I second the motion. People have vented they want an iPod with internet access, etc... well consider this a healthy step in that direction. I am very pleased with the product.

They said music-only would get 24-hours of play but I haven't tested that. I went from Monday thru today without a charge and just light use and still had just under half a charge.

Mack, I have a few more questions. Seeing as I'm still waiting for the phone to come out in Canada.

#1. Do you think it's worth it to wait for 3G, in your opnion how is the web speeds without HiFi? For instance, perusing ModSquad.

#2. How is the call recieving/outgoing? Scratchy? Good?

#3. Is the screen easy to clean?

1) Without WiFi it's pretty brutal, but I'm not usually using it a lot to surf yet and certainly if I can't get a hotspot. Worth the wait for 3G? Depends on your area and I could see the need up here because the network's still switching over and haven't received the upgrades other markets have gotten. I'm not bailing for a new model just for that support as I'm okay only browsing the little bit I do, but it is nice just dinking around with it.

2) Mine's been fine. Had a couple dropped calls but I blame that on the network itself and not the phone. People have had a couple issues hearing me but for the most part it's been okay.

3) I haven't had a problem with it using the cloth they give you. To me it's not different than cleaning an iPod.

I must say, from not having any desire to get one, I really want to get this phone now. Guess I'll have to stick with my sanyo katana for a while since it's fairly new. But once this phone bites it I'll probably get an iphone. I also just purchased a new ipod.
