For the LHS ! converting a one peice

Recommended Posts

I work in a lhs and we have had a few this weekend already I was wondering what other lhs do when a customer comes in to your stores with a broken blade on a one peice and ask you to cut it off and make it like a synergy 2 and put a blade in it what is your cost to do that ?

I've never been charged for the action of taking the blade off. They usually just ask where I'd like them to cut it off, and then they do it. When I did that, I had no idea, so I just drew a line and he did it. It wasn't where I wanted it, so I had to flip it and use it as a standard shaft. (Synergy SL BTW)

My policy is that, if they are buying a blade to put in it, no charge. If they are not buying a blade then we will cut it where they specify but not take and material out of the shaft.

I would never take my broken stick to a shop, it's so easy to do it myself - not to mention I don't trust some other guy's craftmanship.

I'd charge maybe 5-10 bucks if they aren't buying anything. But if they bought say a new blade or even some laces etc I wouldn't charge them. Its a pretty basic little process that doesn't overdo itself on time or labour.

"Dude, buy some laces or the new blade even and I'll sort out the whole stick no charge, how does that sound?"

We don't charge to change blades, even ones not purchased from us. Cutting sticks, be it new ones that need to be shortened or broken ops that people are looking to have converted we won't touch. They are welcome to use the saw, but we don't want anything to do with it. The last thing anybody needs is "You cut this wrong now it's ruined" drama

I don't know if i'd trust a walk in with the saw. You don't need any "I cut my arm off and not it's ruined!" drama either.

Maybe a hacksaw, but definitely no power tools.

my lhs will let certain people use the tools, but only if they know them and know that they know what they're doing. If it was me at the LHS I would follow a similar process, you never know what people will do by accident or maybe not on accident. People can be stupid and/or crazy, don't underestimate them, you might end up with a frivolous lawsuit on your hands. ALWAYS watch your back as a retailer, even a small retailer, although the larger ones are normally the targets.

It's soo bad that where I work we can't bring pallets onto the floor during store hours because customers have filed lawsuits because they tripped over them or dropped one on their foot.

I'm not saying that it's going to happen, it's just worth a few mins of your time here or there instead of risking it.
