what you eat before a game?

I try to have a hearty lunch.

Then, right before I play I have a bowl of cheerios(light on the milk) with a banana sliced up.

I'm always drinking a lot of water anyway, so it goes without saying that I'm drinking it all day.

I don't drink anything during the game.

That or just some thunder...

I don't have a regular pre-game meal but I make sure to have a full stomach two hours before game time. On my way to the rink I eat a banana, sometimes a pbj or "sweet and salty" Ballance Bar.

Big meal much as others have detailed (lean protein + pasta) about 6h before the game, with some fruit a couple hours before puck-drop, some juice an hour or so before, and water continuously.

Depends on how much I'm running around beforehand. A couple of PBJ's, a banana and G2 if I'm on the go. Usually 1 1/2 to 2 hours before.

A couple of slices of pizza (without any adventurous toppings) works ok, too. I'd say the PBJ's are my most recent favorite.

I think we had an old thread about this... maybe it was lost last time a lot of stuff got dumped.

But I'll chime in again with a favorite that never fails me...

I'm vegetarian, and dieting to boot (technically, it's been 14 months, so it's safe to say it's a "change in lifestyle" haha)- so I don't do pasta. I usually do a bowlful of spaghetti squash (in place of actual saghetti) with tomato sauce, sauteed spinach, and sliced olives usually at least 3-4 hours before I skate.

For a pre-game snack before I leave for my drive to the rink (about 45 mins) I'll take 1 slice of whole grain bread, spread all natural peanut butter (or cashew butter if it's on sale), sliced banana, and a drizzle a teaspoon of honey on it (sometimes, i'll sprinkle a lil' cinnamon.... nice, sustained energy and it tastes awesome.

It depends on what time your game is... personally I like to eat a lot of protein in the morning then rest. go for a small run (like 2 miles) then come back eat some pasta then relax and take a nap. then eat a small snack then go to the game and do a pregame warm up and stretch then hit the ice running on all cylinders :D

On game days pasta, preferably whole wheat, with chicken and fruit roughly 3 hours before.

Before practice I'll eat anything homemade and decently healthy about 2 hours before.

On the road its Subway, usually an Oven Roasted Chicken as close to 2-3 hours as possible.

Whatever I'd be having for dinner if it wasn't a game night. Always an adventure around the end of the second period if it was Mexican night at home.

I eat as I normally would, but nothing within 3 hours of a hockey (or any other sport) game. If I do, it's coming back out the first time I get myself moving.

What is the worst thing you guys have eaten before a game that you wish you hadn't.... for me it was taco bell about 2 hours before the game, never again.....

usually nothing upsets my stomach. I could probably eat a burger on the bench in between shifts and be okay. I would say what hurts my stomach the most is drinking too much liquid right before or during the game.

Huh. That was one of the complaints Giguere had when he was having difficulty with hydration, which turned out to be a result of a severe case of a condition that caused him ingest too much air while drinking from a glass or bottle.

Have you tried switching from a spray-bottle to a bottle with a straw? That was what helped him in the end.

On the other hand, you don't want some diseased clot on the bench next to you sucking on your bottle at shinny.

I thought goalies had their own special water bottles with exploding tops that they kept on their net so they didn't have to share. Even at shinny.

You'd be amazed how often we hear, "Glug, glug, glug-- thanks for the water!" while we're concentrating on a point-shot.

P.S. The exploding tops are entirely for your benefit.

Is there a special activation code or something? I haven't got it to explode for me yet.

Hit it harder. I've done it a couple times and watching the goalie get doused after you beat him with a slapper is a major bonus.
