VECTOR Skate lock durability?

Recommended Posts

I have a guy on my team that just got a pair of Vectors and has worn them only twice. He broke off one of the skate lock clips the first time and now another one. Has anyone else had this issue yet? Not sure if this is a quality issue or if there is some trick to these things. From what I saw they seem like a great idea but cheaply made.

BTW; I didnt see anything on this issue in the search so if has been discussed please forward me the link. Thanks in advance.

they suck.

my buddy got a brand new pair of Vector 6's, and the metal D-clip snapped and flew off during his very first warmup using the skates.

it can be easily replaced, however, but do LHS' stock replacements?

i have a feeling he might have engaged the lock a little too roughly, but not everybody is as anal about their gear as we are on here.

The outside edge of the toe of my 6.0's cracked the second time I skated...I took them back and they replaced them. When I put on the replacement pair...one of the lace locks was bent and wouldn't grab tight...so they put one from my cracked boot onto the new skate....no problems since.

I have a pair of PF10s and have yet to have any problems with the skate lock. I think the key is to release them with your finger rather than yanking on the laces.

Pulling down and away from the boot is how they told me to release them.

we had about 8-10 people on our inline team that wore either the pf8's or pf10's and probably 4 or 5 people had one problem or another with the skate locks... i personally had the screw that holds it come out but it was easily replaced. I also have the 8k ice skates and haven't had a problem with the locks... its hit or miss as far as i can tell... might never break, might break in a week... the big problem is if you break it, there's no hole there to lace the skate through so it definitely makes it a little tricky...

Looks like I'll cross those skates off my prospective skate list when I look to replace my 652s next season.

I was looking into 7ks but i dont know either since what you guys said. So can you still lace em without the lock?

They still have some tacks at hockeymonkey if you want to check those out

a guy on my team had this happen on his vectors, i dont really know how the lock works but he said they got stuck locked i guess, so he couldn't un lace his skate after practice, he had to cut the laces to get his skate off that day.

yes, you can still lace them up fine, it's just like skipping an eyelet.

I've only had to replace 3 locks in the 3 yrs they've been using them on both CCM and RBK skates, and one was for a missing screw. Not a big problem and certainly nothing to keep one from considering a skate with them. CCM gave me a few to replace should someone have a problem. Your dealer probably has some as well.

I've had 5K's, 8K's, and 9K's... no issues with the skate lock. However, I am aware that it's a lock for the laces, and don't just "grab and pull away".... I pull my laces away from the lock, then upward. I could see someone just tearing away at them as if they were laced in a normal eyelet and popping the D-ring off.

I took them off my 9k's, hated them. Whenever I used it my feet hurt really bad and I had to wear my skates really loose. When I don't use it and tie them normally they feel great. Just PP i guess.

I absolutely love the lace lock feature on my 8k's! I thought it was just some dumb gimmick until I laced them up at the shop.

Anyway, I've been using mine since late August and haven't had any trouble with them.

I never had to replace mine when i had my vectors i just made sure the screws that hold them were always tight.

My squirt can take or leave 'em on his 7k's....no complaints when tied, took awhile for him to figure out how to get him off by himself, but I have heard no griping for awhile now so I think he's got it.

Hopefully this isn't too old to respond to...

I skated in my V6.0's for 1 week. So far, I have popped a lock ring (no, I wasn't pulling the sh!t out of them - I was tightening out, then pulling up to engage the lock), I have an eyelet coming out in the bottom of the boot, and the blue trim around the edged of the tongue is cracking to pieces. All in all, I am very dissappointed, as I have never had durability problems with CCM's before.
