Did you ever lose a skate blade

Recommended Posts

that happend to one of my team mates last year it was one of the weirdest things i've seen. we were doing skating drills and my team mate made a tight turn and suddenly the blade on one of his vapor xix's popped out at the back then it caught in the ice and snapped in half.

Are you sure it didn't snap and then fall out because if it snaps the front lock isn't being held in and sometimes the blade just falls out, as for Shanny I have never seen that happen. Weird.

it probably did snap then fall out i wasnt really paying that much attention to his skates. i just saw half of his steel lying on the ice and the other half sorta just hanging off kinda like in the pic of shanny

I remember back in the 02-03 season when Kariya's holder broke off in the middle of a game.

A friend of mine was checked hard into the boards and the blade fell out like Shannys. He replaced them with a new set as he thought they were broken but it turned out they weren't. In his case it was to do with the screw that holds the blade in the Lightspeed Tuuks in being too small. This lead to it become loose and therefore falling out.

I have had the above Tuuks fitted with larger screws & attached to my skates with no problems to date.

Have also had a friend whos LS runners snapped in two.

thats happened to me 3 times....2 times with my old v-12's 1 time with my new ones.

the holders that come on the v-12's must be faulty.

it really pisses me off, but i just use a peice of tape to keeep the blade on

I just had that happen on Monday night... I have a pair of 8090's with the lightspeed holder. I had the bolt replaced and things appear fine as of today. It was a bit scary, I was going into the boards with another guy and got hit. I took a stride and just about face planted. The blade itself did not break, but was EXACTLY what happened to Shanny. I managed to get off the ice, but that is pretty dangerous. A guy could easily break an ankle when this happens.

i agree.

when my last v-12s screwed up, nike seemed to care less about it.

this time they are screwing up again, but a simple peice of tape wrapped between the holder and the blade keeps them in there for sure!

I've had a holder break.. but never had a blade fall off.

For how often I have to tinker with my ccm e-holder steel, I would imagine it happens every now and then.

I, and a large number of other people, have had runner-related issues with Lightspeeds. I've seen bolts strip and, more commonly, perforated runners snap. Personally, I didn't even give the LS2s a chance on the XXXs (got them swapped with t'Blades).

My brother had the scalloped steel in his Pro Tacks snap in 2 spots last night. Right in between 2 of the grooves... Left his runner in 3 pieces.

Let's just say he switched both of his runners to solid steel this afternoon.

I was chasing/checking a guy behind the net when all of a sudden he turns to me and says, "Your blade's broken." Then he takes off down the ice and I'm left eating his ice shards because the front half of my blade snapped off my 8090s.

Nice guy, I guess.

Something similar happened to a defenseman on my team, but in that case he took a slapshot to the skate and the blade cracked in half. It didn't fall out of the holder, it just seperated, and there was about 1/4 of an inch gap in his blade. It was late in the 3rd and he actually played a couple more shifts like that...

I remember Ovechkin had trouble with his holders breaking off his CCM Vectors during the Olympics, they ended up taping it on with duct tape at one point in mid game until the problem could be resolved... it was his Vectors that had Red holders...

ls2 perforated runners crack all the damn.. the wierd part about this one is that the front hook appears to be falling out first... i bet whoever put them on didnt put the front hook in all the way haha. and the one bolt in the back of the ls2s snaps occasionally because 1. rusted. 2. if they were just worked on its really easy to tighten them to tight. idk just my 2 cents

it happened to me a few years ago.. But with tuuk custom+'s..

I had a brakaway and the goalie saved my shot with his blocker. The puck ended up behind the net and i was going after it.. I made a sharp right turn when the steel of my right skate came off.

Result! Concussion and a dislocated shoulder. I don't remember the impact itself but my teammates said i went with my head first against the boards..

Since that happened, iv'e never used tuuks.. And now that my prolites have started to make strange sounds (not the ordinary clicking) i'm thinking of going back to ICM's

I would NOT use perforated runners... What a bad idea. The weight savings is minimal. Maybe for a 125lb guy, but if you are 180+ (i'm 220) forget it.

I hope the lightspeeds are not flawed. I have some older skates with decent tuuk custom+, so I'll keep around.
