Correct way to use Sakic?

Recommended Posts

I remember back a while ago, Chadd saying that most people dont use the sakic correctly. May I ask then what the correct way to use it is? Is it a certain amount of blade on the ground etc?

I think it begins and ends with this question: Are you wiping your ass with it or playing hockey with it?

NEXT.

just one more reason why I think your avitar is so appropriate, Mack.. haha.

while I was watching the movie, I was seriously thinking "that pic is perfect for him!"

First read the instruction manual that comes with the blade. If you have any questions after that call customer service, theyll be more then happy to help!

that wasnt even funny.

but anyways, i love the sakic curve, and it seems to me that rolling your wrists really help your shot out.

but just practice with it.

in the end if the puck goes in the net, i guess you are using it right!

My shots are fluttering with the sakic but I roll my wrists enough, could be because of the rocker? I should have the puck closer to my body by shooting? And you guys added a bunch of useless stuff above, bunch of ppl with no life.

Not to be an ass, but the fact that you are constantly looking for shaft/curve/feel help says to me that you are looking for something that could be a crutch to make up for poor mechanics and bad hands. Find a curve, stick with it, and have someone fire passes at you and tool around with a puck until your arms fall off. Repeat this a few times and your "feel" problems should go away.

You should stop using the Sakic, its a terrible blade. Unless you want amazing backhanders with sub par shots, then by all means go with a Sakic. I'll stick with my bananas..

If I want amazing backhanders I would have used the modo blade...I can't care less about my backhand.

i like to shoot wristers off the toe of a sakic and theyre dead on, even though ive been playing hockey for about 18 yrs (cavs couldnt be more right that practice/experience is what its about) and it seems that my clappers work fine too with a sakic i just notice the more the i roll my wrists the higher the shot goes

All things considered some guy named Ovechkin uses a Sakic clone, which simply corroborates the fact that the curve itself isn't responsible for "poor shots" or "amazing backhands." It's the indian not the arrow kids.

Obviously but some people seem to think that the straighter the stick the better the player. Which ever works, I use a Warrior Smyth and it works great, should I practice forever till I get good with a Sakic?

Some people aren't that intelligent, and you're clearly missing my point. Obviously you want to find a curve (lie above all else) that will enable you to maximize your abilities, and whatever that curve may be is a combination of personal preference and mental satisfaction. That being said, constantly switching curves because you don't have the ability to make fundamental plays like catching passes with a stiff OPS blade or following through to your desired target of the net will not change regardless of what pattern your using. Unfortunately I'm preaching to a sea of obstinateness right now so everything I'm saying is trivial.

Wouldn't it make more sense to find a blade that fits you instead of you fitting the blade? Seems like a lot of people are asking questions as far as positioning and use of this particular blade. If I buy a new pattern, something that doesn't compare to a CCM Yzerman or Warrior Smyth, just to try out and I can't shoot with it, thats the end of it. Why throw off your game just to adjust to a new blade?

I don't get the "amazing backhanders/poor shots" quote. Maybe its just me, but my wrist shots are far better with the sakic and my backhanders suffer a bit. Maybe thats just me

It amazes me that there is actually people responding with a serious response to this guys questions. There is no proper way to use any blade. You pick a blade that feels right, get out on the ice, pick a corner and shoot. If it goes where you aimed and you feel comfortable with the blade then thats the right blade for you. Rolling your wrists, using a little more snap, using a different kind of tape, and even holding the stick differently isnt going to make you like or dislike or like the curve anymore. If you try it and you like it then its a good curve for you, if you have problems catching passes or shooting using your style then its not meant for u!!!
