TBLfan 25 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 Does anyone know the official weight of the Vapor XXXX's? The XXX's are 795 grams for a size 8.I don't know for sure the weight of a XXXX in size 8 but I can check my 11s... They are close to the weight of the XXXs, maybe a hair lighter... or even a bit heavier. Nothing you'd actually notice.
greatone 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 The XXXX's have some weight to them. I'm disapointed in this skate. The s15 is by far lighter than the XXXX. The s15 is also lighter than the One90.
GoHawks 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 I don't mean to rain on the parade here, but I don't get what 40 grams could possibly change in a skate... If you really want to go that little bit faster, put a little more weight on when you squat, or drop that extra 10 pounds of fat... a few grams in your skate won't make you faster than losing that spare tire ;)
Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 Your disappointed when talking about the difference of weight in grams ?I cant see how anybody on this board can complain about something noone even notices when skating. The difference in these skates weight is negligable.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 I would rather have a skate that has extra padding in the ankle for more comfort and support than a skate that saves a few grams with half the ankle padding.

Saving 50-100 grams is not going to make you noticeably faster. ...but I do wonder if wearing a skate this light will make a difference fatigue-wise over a 60 minute game if you play 30-35 minutes a game. Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 Compared to an old water logged heavy skate, yeah.Compared to a skate that weighs 50 grams less. Very little if any I'd imagine.
B-Nads 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 What would you say the lightest ones in the sub-$150 category are? I'm looking for a pair for rec league - something lighter than my current CCM 452s.This year's Vector 6's are pretty light with plenty of protection for rec. You could also get Mission L7's or even S5000's in that price range now.I agree with the guys on the sacrifice of protection over weight - I want my feet to still work after getting hit with a puck. I think my 8090's have a great combo of weight and protection. I also agree with the comment about puttiong yourself on a diet before putting your skates on one - wish I could do that... The difference in these skates weight is negligable.NO NO, I did not like the XXXX's at all. The s15 was on display right next to the XXXX's and I did notice a big difference in weight. I waited so long for the XXXX's to come out, and it was a let down. VERY STIFF skate too.
Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 Some people think stiffer is better (insert joke here). But in all seriousness, some people prefer a stiff skate. There are plenty of people singing praises about how stiff the new Vapor is.Personally I havn't seen or felt either skate, but did you have same size skates to compare? I also think you should be comparing S15 and One 90's if your going to be comparing weight. Those are the 'heavyweight' light skates from the respective companies. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 Its not about the equipment that matters. Its how you play.Exactly, I just threw away my Vapors. I'm going to play this week wearing sandals and board shorts.TO a certain extent equipment matters, 40 grams here and there on the other hand doesn't matter. srv2miker 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 If you're that worried about weight you should just take a big dump before face-off. You'll shed way more grams doing that than you ever will spending $900 on skates.
MLSman 22 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 If you're that worried about weight you should just take a big dump before face-off.I nominate this reply for srv2miker's signature.I really don't get the argument on the weight. Almost all of these skates in the 700-750 gram space have sacrificed comfort and/or durability for weight. Few people other than professionals and gear whores with serious issues (myself included as the latter) can afford to buy a $600+ skate every six months because it weighs less than a pair of isotoner slippers. Gaborik41 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 imho the s15s and the one90s are like wearing ski boots without the lining, just straight plastic. they have almost no protection and i've heard stories of guys with one90s that blocked a shot on the ankle and it shattered their foot. sounds like a hard trade between a superlite skate and a supershattered foot. I can't wait to get a try in the xxxx'sThe XXXXs aren't THAT much stiffer than the one90s, if they are indeed stiffer. I would go custom with the one90s(if they fit your feet well) and request a stiffer boot.

I would go custom with the one90s(if they fit your feet well) and request a stiffer boot.I would say they are about the same in stiffness (One90 vs XXXX). If you are having that much of an issue with softening on One90, the XXXX is not going to change that. You need a pro stiffness (4 or even 5) custom skate. If you like the One90, I would stick with it and get it stiffer.
JR Boucicaut 3805 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 MLSMan - almost all NHL custom jobs are in a #2 (retail stiffness). Not that many get them stiffer.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 well "pro flex" is a 110 on the easton scale but we all know that not all pros use 110 flex sticks.
jhotch10 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2007 ihavent wore both skates and um the vapor xxxx's feel lighter too me but the one 90's are the lightest skate out period.
duch 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2007 The Bauer One 90's and the Easton Stealth S-15 are two of the lightest on the market. Both are excellent skates. Light, solid outside boot and extremely comfortable fits. The downsides. Easton skates may tend to bite your ankles and leave cuts if they don't fit you right. Their holders/razor blades are not known to be the best. The One 90 has had some issues with separation of the sole at the heel area. Some people have complained the stitching separates a bit and also there has been some complaints of the tendon guard breaking off. Their holders/blades are one of the best on the market however. Now you have the pros and cons of each to make a decision on.
