Easton Warranty issue

Recommended Posts

Lots of great points here.

I don't think warranties will be abolished. Easton is headed in the right direction with the new double ID program on SE. That will become the norm for everyone soon enough. Not all customers can afford the I don't need a warranty mentality that the more educated MSHer has because he reads so much here. I deal with all kinds of consumers in the pro shop across a spectrum of those with dollars to burn and those without. The warranty levels the playing field for all consumers who want to buy the OPS and need to justify it to themselves when they purchase the OPS for the kid.

This idea of high end performance OPS dropping in price some day is funny. Just like "Speed costs money...." performance in OPS also costs money. If you want a VW OPS, buy the low-end price point. If you want a Porsche OPS, aka Stealth, etc., you will step up and spend the money because you understand what you are paying for and why. Its ok to say for some that they think $200+ is too much for a OPS. Just like everything else in the shop, the consumer has choice and can buy it or not. The companies have no obligation to make high performance product less expensive because some cannot justify the expenditure. Players can do with or players can do without. The companies will never lose money because a handful think $200+ is too much money. Check the majority of people who play hockey: they play because they can afford to play!!

DarkStar hit the nail right on the head!!

Just like many pretend to know how much it costs these companies to make a OPS, the majority of you have NO CLUE (sans Paul Murphy; Murph knows all!, as well as the RBK/THC and NBH guys that are on here).

Murph does know all...hahaha

If companies are shipping out factory seconds or the like as warranty replacements then they are opening themselves to a nice class action suit. If they are not replacing defect sticks with first quality but rather with a lesser quality product then you could conceivably have a case against them.

I don't recall the warranty stating that they replace a broken stick with a brand new #1 quality run.

Although I don't necessarily believe that they are factory seconds it would explain a few things I've seen with the replacement sticks, softer blades, flex feels "different" and awkward looking blades(the weave on the blade looks off).

They dont have to send back a new stick to anyone who claims they have a stick with a manufacturers defect in the first place.

The vast majority of replacements shouldn't be shipped in the first place. If there is a defect, it's going to break pretty fast. Usually on the first big slapper that you take. The problem is most people consider it to be a 30 day unconditional abuse warranty and that just isn't accurate.

Amen!

I feel bad for people that break an expensive stick, but you gotta realize the abuse these things take. Something has to give. I tell people when they're buying a one piece "you're buying this for performance, not for durability"

Im not saying nor ever have said that every stick they send out is a factory second!! I know plenty of people that have gotten unmarked brand new sticks with no "warranty replacement" on them that hold up great. Then i know a lot of people, myself included that have gotten back "warranty replacement" sticks that feel like crap and break a lot faster then normal. Im sure if there was a poll taken on warranty replacement sticks it would def show they dont hold up as well as the original. Im sure there could be a thousand reasons as to why that is but i guess we'll just have to let everyone come up with their own conclusion. Ive been playing hockey long enough and know my game well enough to get a good idea how long my sticks normally last with the shot patterns i have. The game of hockey itself can change the wear and tear on a stick on a game by game basis. But from practicing everyday, 2 hrs a day i can usually tell when my sticks are breaking down. Easton and Bauer are the two companies that mark there sticks with a visible replacement symbol. Mission, Warrior, Christian, Fury, all send out unmarked replacements. I think CCM has two blind guys working in the stick room and they just send out whatever prostock stick they grab first!!

I dont see how stating this information is hurting myself my relationship with Easton, or my customers. Its not like i state to everyone of my customers that if their stick breaks then theyll be receiving a "seconds" model from them. Im simply telling you the facts and details ive gathered from customers walking through the door year after year with the same complaint and through personal experience. I dont hold it against them (the company) in away, hell i know about this problem and i still continue to use their sticks today and youll never hear me complain...Offering a warranty to customers is a great way to make them feel secure about their purchase but in the end it ends up being a PITA for all!!!

well, that much is obvious... you don't get it.

Im simply telling you the facts and details ive gathered

You also appear to have difficulty discerning between rumour, gossip, opinion, conjecture and fact.

Many (not all) warranty replacements in most (not all) industries are factory seconds/repaired/refurbished goods. That's just how it is.

Easton does not send seconds. They are first-run sticks and are stamped "Warranty Replacement" as they are issued.

The people you talk to on the phone are still in SLC - the sticks are just coming out of KY.

When the new warranty program goes forward, warranty replacements will be the same stick, with the warranty sticker pulled off.

CTHockey - I seriously advise you to quit while you're ahead.

Ahead of what????? This is a chat board where people share information. Ive stated my facts and others have stated theres. I am not hurting my business nor yours!! Easton will always dominate the market no matter what is said about their products. While im sitting here stating what i know im also stating that i use and like their products!! No need to get all tied up in knots over a statement or two. Everyone has their own opinion on every topic here and i still stand forward on mine. I never said all sticks were seconds but theres definitely a lot of them in the past that we below standard. Maybe now with their new warranty system they dont have to worry about fraud as much so theyll be able to issue new sticks since they will be able to better understand and see if these sticks are truely under the warranty period and broke due to a true "manufactorers defect"!!

Point is Easton is the final decider if it is a manufacturers defect, if it is they send you a new stick. Obviously both of these sticks used were manufacturing defects, as they both broke from limited use
