Websites Blocked In China

Recommended Posts

As some of you have heard, China has a firewall that blocks certain websites. This is a little tool to see if your favorite websites are blocked in China.

It's nice to see that MSH is available in China. I check some of my domains and they are all blocked in China. It must have something to do with the owner of the IP range and/or web host plus of course content. What are your thoughts on China's blocking of major websites?

The One-Child policy I hear is working but I heard the girls that are being born are being killed so the family can have a boy. Basically it's going to be an imbalance between men and women like in India. Not positive of this but me teacher told me.

Also I believe in China there is something like only 3 internet providers.

the commy party in china spends 1/4 of their annual gross on informational blockades, its never a good thing. for example, SARS came from china but nobody knew until an ex navy doctor came out and revealed it to western media, in that situation, not only western countries were in the dark, but china blocked info to their people too.

parallels can be drawn when comparing chinas censorship and the great iron curtain days of USSR.

We aren't blocked because we haven't had a debate on the ethics of doing business in China in more than a year. Let's keep it that way.

dont you just love the smell of communism in the morning?

There is nothing wrong with communism, it is just that the governments that have practiced it haven't implemented it perfectly, to say the least. Communism in theory is a wondefull idea. A Classless society with equality for all. In theory it sounds fabulous, but in all actuallity it is hell. Everybody is equal, doctors, ditch diggers, teachers, etc. The government keeps the peace, or the terror, it matters how you look at it. A "true" communist society has never existed and most likely will never as it is impossible to be completely classes (as you need a government to form communism). Karl Marx (author of The Communist Manifesto) said that communism must come out of capitalism... so maybe we are next. I fundamentaly disagree with communism, too much government control. Lets go Libertarian.

Marx also denied the fact that capitalism would improve its conditions over time. Not gonna happen in the US, we're too advanced. People won't want to regress in the name of equality.

obviously the US would not (in the near forseeable future) convert to communism. It's not just the fact that we are prosperous (even with trillions in debt), its the fact that communism is a dirty word in our society. Most people do not even know what communism is, they just think communism = bad.

Not a bad point. If things do turn to shit for the US in the future, I would think a Christian fundamentalist fascism would be more likely than communism, but I doubt either will ever happen. Its interesting to hear someone who from what I know is very materialistic (not a bad thing) almost defend communism.

Bottom line is, the seemingly innate American principles of self-advancement and self-glorification ruins any possibility for something remotely close to communism to exist here.

It was meant sarcastically, of course. For the land of oppurtunity turned into a communist state would be a neat trick.

I am not defending communism, I am very anti communism. It's just that most people do not know what true communism is. It has nothing to do with totalatarianism or authatarianism or even a dictaorship. Russia and China are terrible examples of true communism. A good example of communism is T-Ball. As many swings as you need, the outs don't count, the runs dont count, and nobody wins. So everybody is equal, therfore everybody is happy, YAY!

Great, so calling you Pinko is twofold now.

Marx also envisioned true phase-two communism as defined by the dissolution of the state. Thats where Lenin/Stalin, China and every other communist country in existence split.

Exactly, how can there be a government in a state of equals? Using communism is a convenient way to control the people. You convince them that everybody must be equal while you stand above them rich and powerfull.

Using war is also a great way to control people. Look at the novel 1981. You make up an enemy (lets just call them terrorists) and you start a war (it makes sense to call it the War on Terror, that is your enemy, no?) that never ends. WAIT A SECOND...

"Wow, 85% of Fox News viewers thought President Bush did an excellent job in his State of the Union address. Those are Stalin-like numbers!"

Communism, much like the Thrashers, looks good on paper but in the end won't amount to anything prosperous.

It doesn't look good on paper to everyone, but once the under-class gets large enough, look out. Given the reproductive rates of the various income levels in the US, it's only a matter of time before someone tries to seriously push it here.

What makes you believe it isn't already happening. Our Social programs draw their roots from socialist/communist ideals. Why should I be paying into disaster relief from Hurricane Katrina, I didn't choose to live there. I should choose to donate the amount I see fit to charity, there should not be a social program telling me how much I should be paying. Look at Canada, socialized medical coverage. Sure it is great for people that cannot afford health care, but why should I be paying for your bills? These programs should be privitized not governmentized.

But look at what a wonderful job the VA does in providing health care to our veterans. With all that experience we would do a great job with nationalized health care.

The Dep. of Veteran Affairs is a perfect example of why programs like this should be privitized. They have a budget of well over 60 billion and more than 220,000 employees. There are approx. 25 million veterans and you need 220,000 employees and over 60 billion dollars to take care of their needs? A private company could do this with an 97 employees, 6 thousand bucks, and a handfull donated 133 pentium computers.

Well, we are adding to the number of vets that are going to need long term medical care, so the budget is going to have to go up. It's also not like most of the vets are going there for colds or flue shots, they tend to be more expensive treatments. That's not to say they are efficient.
