Shinpads and Sock tape question

Recommended Posts

I am new to ice so I just wanted to know if having sock tape is mandatory, I am guessing that sock tape serves as extra straps of the shinpads so that the shinpads doesnt move out of postion during game play. Does anyone know a differnt alternative to sock tape, to me buying sock tape is a little too costly and I would rather save the money so I can get a better shaft, its a little over a dollar in Canada for a roll of sock tape. Is there a permanent kind of a strap that replaces sock tape? Like velcros and etc.... and would shin pads that have a calve wrap help (a pad that wraps around your calve).

Thanks

Whip

I personally don't like wearing sock tape. If you get a tighter fitting sock there is no need for it.

Are "Shin-Tights" still around? An elastic - spandex type sleeve that slides over your shinpads under your sock. It takes the place of tape. I've never used them, so can't say whether they work or not. The ones I remember seeing were grey with black bands top and bottom.

I prefer tape over everything else. I like feeling like my shinguard is glued to my leg and actually part of my leg. Shoe laces work ok and I've never actually tried the elastic velcro stips that are sold out there. I have a buddy that has a sock tape company you might want to check it out. His tape works very well.

You can quite often find tape for pretty cheap on Ebay as well.

I like the Itech shin straps. (Used to be called Stiekboy.) They're neoprene and the one side is all velcro, so you don't have to worry about matching up the two velcro tabs. They're really stretchy and hold very tight.

WSI makes something similar, elastic top and bottom and mesh around th emiddle for ventilation.

Personally, I just use the two straps that came on my pads. I don't need anything else.

Are they really tight fitting or do you just have extra tight socks?

Shin-Tight is made by Viceroy. The WSI Shin Sleeve is similar.

I use the 2" ProGuard shin straps on my 8090s with clear tape. I'm like Ryan - I like them to be tight.

The velcro stips hold them pretty tight. I actually stretch the bottom of my socks to the point of ripping so they move without pulling my shin pads.
