motivational movie

My son got invited to play on the travel team this year. He is the youngest and most inexperienced kid so he is very much the "low dung on the rung". Anyway, he is on the bubble weekly if he is going to get "called up" to the big game. So far he has a pretty good attitude about it, working his butt off in practice and very much being team player. But he is starting to get frustrated when he doesn't get the call.

I keep telling him that he is going to have to work harder than anyone else on the team so he can catch up for all the years of experience he missed. So I am looking for a kid friendly movie that he might be able to relate to. I saw "The Rookie" and loved it. This is the type of thing I am looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Awesome! I had totally forgotten about that one. I think that is one of the all time greatest.

Rudy was the first one that popped into my head. Another great movie that we watched recently was The Greatest Game Ever Played. What made it so fulfilling is they had a documentary from 1963 that suggested the movie was fairly factual, unlike most "Based on a...."

I consider my favorite movie ever to be inspirational, although in a far different way. But when I hear, "Freedom!" at the end of Braveheart....

Oh Man, Braveheart is one of my top favorites as well. Also the "Patriot". Though I do not think my 11 year old would put it all together in terms of motivation...

I have not heard of those. I will check in to them. All the movies mentioned are really good. I manage to watch at least a bit of the 'Titans" whenever it is on the tube.

Here's a link with a little info on it. It is an awesome dvd. Plus you get to hear his father's take on stuff, him growing up. All in all, just an awesome dvd.

I'd have to say invincible for sure. Mark Wahlberg is really good in that movie and plays a football player that sounds like he is pretty much the same situation as your son, minus the youngest player part. Its not a hockey movie but it motivated me for hockey at least.

I'll take a look at "invincible". I had not thought of that one. Miracle too is great one. Great advice folks, thank you.

We've all seemed to forget the granddaddy of them all. 1976's Oscar Winner.....Rocky.

Hidalgo, although it's apparently not as true as advertised.

Cinderella Man is supposed to be pretty good, but I haven't seen it yet.

Dreamer was fun entertainment.

Hoosiers

Victory and Triumph Of The Will mix sports and overcoming the odds in a WWII setting.

Glory has nothing to do with sports, but sacrificing oneself for the greater good.

I'll try to think of more.

I would have to agree, and shame on me for overlooking that one.

Sidenote to Rocky... the original score is fantastic. I'm borderline cornball, so I have it on my iPod. But it's the only cd I have that keeps me on the bike for 40 minutes +
