Kyle Wellwood - Maple Leafs

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure Sundin works back and forth through 2 pairs of gloves per game...1st period...switch....third period back to the first pair which had been dried.

most guys do have multiple gloves... its not like oates used brand new gloves every period...

Ahh, the way they talked about it I just assumed he had new gloves each time.

Hence my primadonna comment, this was 5 or 6 years ago, I was only in the country about 6 months and had only just begun to follow hockey, so I guess I made the assumption they were new

Same thing w/Ray Bourque. He used to have to change gloves during periods because he would sweat so much (avg. 30 min/game) that he would have pools of sweat in them. Not a prima donna though.

It'll be interesting to see what Wellwood ends up having to switch to.

Actually, Bourque didn't use a new pair each time. They had a dryer system where he'd put his wet ones over the dryer (looked like a big vacuum hose that was hooked up to a dehumidifier - the hose fit the wrist opening quite well) and put on the ones that were on the dryer previously.

Every locker room has one of those.

Watch a team come off the ice - they toss their gloves to the trainers as they enter the room.

Hull and Roenick were others ones who were on a glove rotation.

I'm more intrested in Jarett Stoll's sticks, a stick that has been used for 3 slapshots can't be a spagetti noodle no matter how hard you shoot.

It's not like he has the fastest shot or the biggest bodyweight in the NHL.

I remember hearing that during a sportsnet broadcast. although watching the oilers games during the season, he clearly broke the most sticks out of any oiler. I think at one point he switched to the TPS response.

He'll seemingly never give that stick up.

wouldn't he eventually run out of stock just like Wellwood and Shanny and be forced to give up and use something else ?

I know where at least a dozen of these in 50KP flex are. :D

he needs 45 KP, I also wonder if there is a difference between retail and his pro stock one's ?

speaking of a TPS Response; has anyone else noticed Gomez ditched the 9KO for a XN10?

I dont blame Gomez for switching back, the XN10 is easily the best OPS I have ever used. I wish I could find more LH SW P19 or even P27 Grips, Id sell all my other sticks without a second thought to buy more of them.

Anyone ever see one of his sticks before? I'd be interested to see what kind of curve he uses. Seems like he'd use a flat blade with a high lie, seeing how well he handles the puck in his feet and passes.

Didn't Shanny get (or try to get) the remaining stock of aluminum shafts from Easton after they stopped production?

I seem to remember watching a wings game that they mentioned that BS bought the remaining hundreds of aluminum shafts from Easton at the time.

That could very well be. How about a spin off thread? What could you make with a few hundred shafts? I would say a deck, but you would burn the sh&t out of your feet in the summer. :P

I think if you had a deck made of aluminum shafts, you'd have to be awfully careful walking on it on a rainy day.

from what I remember I thought it was similar to a retail Modano curve. Not much loft, if any at all.

I didn't like his sticks at all, they were so short and stiff. I wonder how he can flex it ? They felt like 110, maybe more (due to it being so short).

The only stick I found that I kind of liked was a Warrior Dolomite. Standard shaft with a fused graphite blade. I never seen a Wellwood tapered stick/combo.

Yeah, Stoll switched to a TPS mid-season. he still broke a few, but not as many as the eastons he was using. I remember seeing him break a few eastons during faceoffs.

As for Wellwood, I think the equip. manager is going to be putting some overtime to find the sticks that you all know about!! Good stuff.

I think some pro's may suffer from being Primeau-Modanno's... er, prima-donnas. I mean, 5 skates a year? A new $200 composite each game? I know they're pros, but that seems excessive. I bet they wouldn't be so fast if companies didn't give them price breaks, freebies, and teams didn't pitch in for the cost.

I'd be ok if they sold off some of the products and gave the proceeds to charities. There's gotta be a lot of life left in Heatley's sticks for example.

Heatley's sticks are auctioned off with proceeds going to Roger's House.

Not sure if it's the same Wellwood, but the LHS here got some NBH woodies and it's a heel pretty similar to the old Thornton/Ciccarelli.
