I maybe understand the politcal leverage that they think could be gained through the whole thing, but this is a monumental waste of time and energy. The tourney will be over before anything is done. The politicians are looking to get positive press, but instead they are looking, well, like normal. <_<

Maybe we need to have the government approve all the players selected for any national team. That way they can weed out any they like - or dislike, get the correct balanced of language, visible minority, provincial representation, etc...

Sure, Hockey Canada reports to the government on some level. This however, is a joke.

Beeing a french frog, i'm just embarrassed by the whole thing. My fathers and uncles have given the heritage of hating those f*cking english boys (ontarians especially) and we have fun hating each other, we love the rivality, particalarly in hockey. What if he said it, are we going to cry and whine until he apologizes?

This is a pitiful situation. The fact that it's even happening is embarassing for me as a Canadian. I can not believe that our government is wasting it's time on this garbage. All this does for me, is reinforce the very common belief that those men and women in Ottawa are grandstanding jackasses that don't do any real work.

On a side note, I agree with Hidious. Most Canadians make light of the french/english division, as well as the various headaches that having an officially bilingual country creates. It's impossible to understand the commotion around a seemingly benign comment.

I wrote this on the petition: As a resident of Quebec there is no issue with Doan's alleged comments among the French Canadians around here. The pathetic thing is that instead of talking abou real issues the House of Commons is debating a hockey related issue mind your own buisness!

I've talked to all my friends who are French and none of them really care less besidesand the fact that it was "alleged" makes this issue even dumber.

Here's what should Happen. 47% of quebec tried to leave Canada. SO in light of this 47% of the French-Canadians should be cut from all team Canada's. Its only fair right? I think its fair to say that voting to leave the country is far worse then uttering a slur at another man? It's typical French Canadians whining over how their language has no respect. I wonder why.

P.S. no offence to any nice french canadians. As was already said Us ontarians have bad blood with them and i have met VERY FEW nice ones. ut hey thanks for hull, 20 minute Bus ride and I can get into clubs a year earlier haha

I think its all a big f*cking joke, if Canada wanted to put Doan captain, its because he deserved it, they wouldn't be like oh he said bad things towards french refs so he doesn't deserve it, who gives a hoot, everyone yaps away at the refs, and most of the time you end up in the box anyways, no matter what you say to a ref you don't win. I know a few guys who got drafted to the OHL right from midget and some of these guys were pretty nasty with the refs, did that affect their draft no!, so whats the whole deal? By the time they actually make something out of his the tourney will be over.

In fact, i'd say 90% of real Quebecois voted yes to seperate from Canada. I think we should have our own country. We lost mostly beacause of Immigrants and english people. They love Canada. But a lot of time has passed since then and the hype for independance is not very strong these days.

I've never actually met a nice Ontarian. I live in a touristic city (ski&golf) and Ontarians are the worst you can find. Yes, Americans are a lot nicer. And hey....it's just for fun blazer :P But it's true!

What do you mean? If you are talking about the last budget, we just wanted our part of the cake. We were paying big taxes here but the federal gouvernment was re-distributing it in an unbalanced way.

We'd be more than ok alone, there's no question.
