NBH ID program Update

Recommended Posts

I remember that there was a short feature on TSN about the Nike ID program. I believe that it claimed a customer could choose the kick point of the stick. Does anyone know if this is true?

Um...you guys won't get those skates. We have had SEs in the shop for a month now.

All top-end product will be at the HockeyDeals proshops - Summits won't have any of it. We decided this when we booked - looks better and a better chance of selling it at a proshop than buried in a Summit store. Sorry, bro.

obviously you can choose flex, but you can still do colors right?

you are correct.

you have also options between one90 skin and vapor skin.

Can you alter the shaft shape/grip at all or is it just curve and your "name" on it.?

Thats probably it. Maybe a grip or no grip option?

you can.

As JR mentioned eariler in previous thread, there are 15 different blade patterns you can choose. So, there will be 10 other patterns provided.

if you want to spend the $$$$$$$$$$ go to miasports.com...they do custom OPS. Also, If you're looking for a lot of sticks, pretty much any company does customs, and the minimum is usually 6. Call up your LHS for more info on that anyway.

if you can't get a custom curve, what is the point of paying inflated prices to match your team colors, and have your name on the stick?

Edit: prior to posting this I missed the fact that 15 patterns would be available. I thought it would be just the current retail patterns.

Out of the 15 patterns that will be available the majority of those interested in a custom stick would be satisfied. Were you seriously expecting them to make custom molds for everyone and ship them to china on the off chance that they might order a couple dozen sticks over the life of the program?

Satisfied how? Their name stamped on a stick? Their stick can match the colors of their team? I'm sorry, I missed in my pervious post where I stated I had some sort of "expectation to make custom molds for everyone"

I just don't see how anything reaper said confirms your "theory." I'm interested in being able to get a possible 10 different curve choices as opposed to trying to find a pro stock that fits my wants/needs... I don't see how "on ice aesthetics" plays much of a roll in most of MSH-ers anticipation of this. Mind you, I'm sure some will of course love the custom colors but most serious/picky players would rather have an ugly stick that works for them than a pretty stick with a crappy curve.

The purpose of the ID program is to have something custom-- I understand that. All I am saying is many more people (myself included) would be much more interested if NBH made these 15 curves available for retail purchase (who knows, maybe they will- doubtful, but who knows) without price gouging for custom colors, name etc.

As for my theory: you must look no further than several current threads on the board, but I'm not going to go into it...

It's too many SKUs - a retailer would be insane to stock 15 patterns of the same stick.

Retailers don't have to stock them, make it factory direct ordering from NBH, just as with the ID program, just don't charge inflated prices for those of us who don't care what the damn stick looks like....

Although, I realize this would cut out the LHS from the picture. So really I have no idea how it would work.

So really is this a bad idea? The colors and nameplate are more of an extra option. The price won't be much more than buying a stick from your LHS.

Its not only bad business for a LHS to try to sell 15 patterns in two minimum, maybe three flexes(45 options right only or 90 options, left and right OPS in stock), it is bad business for a vendor to carry any depth of inventory in this type of product on hand in a warehouse. As a buyer it is amazing how quickly your inventory $$ skyrocket in OPS. At the moment, I am just talking about Senior OPS. Add in Intermediate and Junior OPS to your inventory $$, and you are headed to $100K at wholesale, sooner than you think. Especially, if you don't know what you are doing. Once those OPS are shipped to your shop, they are your problem.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes in the business world of hockey that some guys are totally overlooking. Just food for thought...........

An interesting point here......

I bought two vapor pro stock ops, and they are for the Vancouver Giants of the WHL. And there is a “pro stock” mark underneath the stick. This was before the NikeID program was introduced in Modsquad. However, few weeks after, I went LHS. I saw sticks (they have a section only for pro stock sticks). A guy works there says that they just got new sticks. BUT! Sticks did not have the “pro stock” mark, but they are for the Giants players. Weird... I believe that this shows the NikeID program is not a pro stock.
