Recommended Posts

Im just wondering that which model from the tackla cllection is the lightest?

I've been looking at the 9000 acs, 5000 air, 9000 pro, and 5000 pro. But I don't know which one is best. Any recommadations?

You most likely won't notice the difference in weight, because they are all pretty close. If you are looking for true lightweight...look at girdles. From the quality vs weight perspective... 5000 pro then 9000 ACS.

Ok. Im just wondering what pants do Maxim Afenigenov and Thomas Vanek wear? Are they the 5000 pro, 9000 acs, or just a girdle and a shell? I've also noticed a flex and stride pant, any good?

All the buffalo Pros wear Tackla 9000 Air pants.

I have the 9000's and they are the most comfortable pants for the weight. The lightest I have ever worn (aside from shell/girdle combos) was the XXX lit.. but they are more restrictive IMO.

My Reccomendation: Get the 9000's.

Depends too on what you want. If you are a beer leaguer just looking for moderate protection and lightweight - then try the Pro 8500 - they are really light and have leg zippers with decent protection.

I also have a set of the 5000x's and they are a phenomenal pant..more protective..but slightly more weight...not like you'd notice on the ice though.

Ok the 9000 air or acs? Or are they just the same?

9000 ACS is far superior to the 9000 Air. I had both, and the ACS is much better quality. The 5000 pro is also a great pant. Those are the only two pants I would by...top notch quality.

Razr is correct...9000 ACS pro pant is the Sabres pant.

Ok. I've also been wondering about the rbk 9k pants vs the 9000 acs pants which one is more lightweight. I know that the 9k pants have a more girlde feel but i dont know about the weight difference and the mobility compared to the 9000 acs.

I can't compare the 9K to the ACS, but from the 8K to the ACS, I can do, as I have had both. The 8K was a very nice pant...but a bit heavier and bulkier. I sold the 8K, and love the ACS. The ability to get them in a -2, retail, and +2 length is what sold me. See www.thehockeyshop.com for the ACS in the custom lengths. I am a tall guy that is skinny, so the ability to get s 50 +2 pant in stock sold me. I am very happy with my choice.

None of the 9000s are lightweight and the ACS are just a little more polished than the Airs, no real improvement otherwise. The 9K are also heavy, even in comparison to some of the other highly protective pants. You should get a little more mobility out of the 9K, but with it being a hybrid girdle/pant, it will still be less protective in my opinion.

If all you care about is the weight, why don't you just get a pair of gym shorts, and write Tackla on them?

Has anyone here seen the Tackla TK-55? Super lightweight, zippers, not cut like a box like all other tackla pants, bulletproof durability, and an antimicrobial liner. My LHS is the only place I've seen them.

I want to get protection but also quickness into my game im a AA-AAA level player so I want to get the best pants possible.

Pants don't make you quick and as long as they don't restrict your movement, they won't make you slow either. Light pants aren't going to be protective. If you expect to get hit by shots, get something protective.

Exactly Chadd.

I saw some Eastons in store, and they were really light; but it didn't have any protection behind the legs. It was just the fabric. That's all.

Not for nothing, but the 1/4-1/2" of foam sewn into the back of the legs on even the best pro pants doesn't really do much - you almost never get hit there unless you're driving the net and one of your teammates tees one up into you, in which case your hammys are gonna be bruised with or without the foam. The more important stuff is the tailbone, hip and thigh. Some guys at higher levels don't really land on their tailbone as much, so I've seen some of them remove some of the tail padding. Hip protection is something you take for granted until you don't have it, so nobody messes with it, and the thighs are where shot blocks should be hitting you (other than the shin) if you're doing it right, so some guys will even add extra thigh protection.

But once you get to top of the line pants, they all cover most of those areas. Look how often junior/pro players change teams and generally don't have a choice in the brand of pant they were (below the NHL level).

Tackla 5000's and 9000's are among the best in the world on a weight/protection ratio scale. They also get extremely flexible with use giving you a great range of movement. If its protection you need go to a North American pant like the RBK 8K or 9K. Or the Easton S-9 or S-5. They are slightly heavier but will give you more than enough protection for your level of hockey.

Personally I've always worn Bauer pants and right now trying to decide to upgrade from my Bauer Vapor 10s from about 5-6years ago to One90s or wait for the 9K.

Tackla 951 Advantages are great too. And fairly cheap for the protection/durability they offer. Possibly my favorite peice of equipment.

I would have to say that the 5000 air are the most comfortable out of all the pants. The zippers hold up good. I have had no problems with them. If anybody was going to buy tacklas I would reccomend the 5000 air.

I relaly love my CCM 892 Tacks....love em'. They're pretty light and great protection. The mobility is great...they're a little bulky but they don't get in the way. Can't say enough great things about these pants.
