Vapor XXXX outsole issue.

Recommended Posts

So I got my Vapor XXXX skates about 3 weeks ago. I didn't skate on them that week because I wanted to get the baked first... so after two icetimes I found this on the outside of the left boot:

Now I'm certainly not speaking out against the skate or claiming there are durability issues but I just wanted to make others aware of my situation. I will talk to my LHS later this week about this and I'll keep you guys informed.

it pulls away pretty good when any force is applied to it. It moves about 2mm or so when I use my fingernail. I imagine it only getting worse(there was a seem before now it's twice if not three times bigger), of course I could be wrong and this might be the worst of it.

By the way, the right skate looks seemless in that area.

Thanks JR. It does worry me but I'm sure my LHS will take care of it if it becomes a real issue.

Player skates are a somewhat new thing for me, I've only had my 952s and these. Previously I had cowlings so this is completely new to me. Thanks again.

do you think thats its possible that when you baked them it melted the glue on the boot, and thats why u have this issue

I have seen this happen a lot to the one90's which is why I had some concerns when buying them. I know that these are XXXX's, but with the demand to make skates lighter, and skates being made overseas, makes me wonder about the quality at times. Definitly not saying these are bad skates at all, but I do wonder about the quality of some things not made in North America.

Also, lets face it, high performance items are gear is usually not made for durability, but simply high performance. Again, not knocking any gear, and your skates should not be coming apart that soon, but i am saying I am expecting it to happen to my one90's one day!!

Just my 2cents, i'm sure others will have their opinions too!!

Good luck!!

TWo things

1. In regards to the issue in the picture, you have a rounded surface(the bottom of the boot) and a straight edge ( the edge of the outsole)there is gonna be some seperation along the edges. Now if the rivets were pulling out then there is an issue but for the most part it is a cosmetic thing.

2. Product that is made over-seas usually has just as good if not better quality than stuff that is made in North America

there's no separation on the right skate, the outsole curves up to match the bottom of the boot. I hope it's just cosmetic! Less work for me!

My XXXX"s have not done that yet, but I've only used them for 3-4 stick times cause I have not baked them yet... but seriously youre skates should not be doing that yet... I know I would freak if that was happening to mine...like you said talk to your LHS... welllll, good luck!

my 1152's look like that all around the heel of both skates. No big deal.. Just put on some epoxy if it bothers you.

Jr's right, unless your holder is coming off, then you have nothing to worry about. I've seen this on so many skates. The rivets anchor the holder down and unless those are rusted to crap and you're experiencing problems, then I wouldn't worry about it. From the picture, it looks like it's near the ball of your foot where the protective covering just before the toe cap meets. That material is bigger and has to fit in between the outsole and the quarter of the skate and so there has to be a gap.

I second that JR is right, but i think its some kind of a fraud. Maybe fraud is not the right word, but TBLFan got a brandnew skate, skated them TWO times and something is broken. I know that the rivets will hold the holder, but in fact something is incorrect there. A bit sad, if you ask me.

He paid a huge amout for a top of the line skate and the first problem came up after two icetimes.

I personally wouldnt run to my LHS, but i just wanted to share my 2cts.

I think that's too drastic to say it's "broken". He can still skate on them and probably could for a long time before anything bad would happen from that bit of separation (if ever).

I agree with him going to his LHS though if he is worried about it. Let them put the epoxy on it if it will make him feel better. At the least they can let Bauer know if lots of guys come back with the same issue.

yeah, I'm going to talk with them to see what they think and I'll go on whatever advice they give me. Chances are I will continue using them and if the area gets bad I will have them contact NBH.

Besides that and getting used to a much smaller radius I love the skates.

that is the sad reality of hockey products today, from a finish stand point, it at times look low grade out the box and the prices are sky high...

at the cost now a days is it wrong to expect more?

ill second greatone's statement, i would have to say it has something to do with baking, either the heat or something is causing the some glue to dry up and crack or its just letting go after some heat because RYAN DYHA hasn't had any problems yet and he didn't bake them.

with the kind of money being shelled out for skates I would have something done about that, even if it is only cosmetic. that is unacceptable in my eyes. I'm sure your not going to be the only person with this problem.

Funny:

Same thing happened to my One90s...I baked them and the outsole separated from the boot. So, when I got the XXXXs (two pair), the fit was comfortable enough not to warrant any baking. I have not had the outsole separation issue with my pairs.

I think some people are overbaking skates, and it is effecting the adhesive properties of the epoxy.

TBLFan, this is the exact thing that happened to my Graf G3's. And I guess that was a normal issue for the G series GRAFS. I had to use gorilla glue because the warrentie was voided due to me having Tuuks put on them. Lucky for you thats not the case.
