Blacked Out Sticks in NHL

Recommended Posts

:)

I suddenly feel the urge to set something on fire around here. Last time I lit something on fire in the shop it was Easter and it was a marshmallow Peep. Peeps react better to torches, not heat guns.

Last week I was on a Liquid Nails kick and glued anything and everything I could find my hands on in the shop. Except my hands, of course.

Our goalie once broke the lace she uses to tie her pads to her skates in a game so I tied it off and rubbed glue into the not... and managed to glue my fingers together. I had to get some adhesive remover pads from the trainer. It was pretty embarassing.

Oh yeah, blacked out sticks in the NHL... they're awesome. (my not so subtle way of keeping this on topic  )

Man, it's coming out pretty damn good. It is assembled - now I just have to sharpen/shape it.

Im jealous as hell. You are working in an awesome Detroit hockeystore, see/talk to some RW players, have fun while getting paid. Damn. You must have had a nice time in your first life.

Things are not as rosy as they may seem. While I could say that I have fun at my job for the most part, I still haven't gotten to where I want to be (career-wise and financially.)

Ooh someone just came in and broke their steel. I think it's time for me to make a prison-style knife out of the steel and a butt end. YAY.

hahahahah  that's quote material right there!

on the rangers website they have 2 videos about what the equipment managers do and one part shows jagr painting the bottom of his stick and the equip. manager says most guys like having just a black blade without seeing silver and stuff. if you want to watch them go to newyorkrangers.com then click the "on demand" button on the right side. then click "rangers world" on the top and both videos are on the 8th page.

cool videos, never figured hockey equipment managers had to work so hard.

Oh yeah...just like roadies/techs for a band, they set it up and tear it down. And the only time you get a break is during the game, when hopefully everything goes without a hitch.

Equipment managers consume more caffeine than any group that I know. Its a constant flow...

Thanks for those!

By the way, he stitched Jagrs ONE90s, just in case someone wants to see them or so.

Edit:

Is it common that equipment managers even tape the players' sticks during the break between periods? Where Shanahan wanted his stick taped and he went nuts and got it taped in 2 seconds. Thats like too divaish, if thats the case everytime ;)

Another edit:

You can literally SEE how tired they are and how much they love the job. I think (as far as I can calculate the position) they dont get as much appreciation as they deserve.
