WOW...NBH one90 shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

Sher-Wood 5030 Traditions are the best shoulder pads for noncontact beer leaguers, IMHO. Anything more, and you're adding bulk and taking away money from beer fundage.

yea, i don't see why you would want to spend the extra money (or exertion) on full shoulder pads if you're just playing rec hockey. most of the guys in our local rec. league, and for open hockey, don't even wear shoulders. that reebok shirt has some pretty good testimony, deflecting a slapshot, i might try that one out.

The new One/90 shoulder pad is a great top end shoulder pad. I currently wear the Jofa/Reebok shoulder pad (6K) and find them some of the best on the market but I would definitely consider the new One/90 or One/70 for the hockey I play. It's extremely light and the protection has been ungraded a couple of notches from previous shoulders Nike/Bauer has produced. They are a top end pad and will give Reebok a run for their money now.

As far as protection I believe that you should get the best you can afford even if you play recreational hockey because sure there is no hitting ( or very little ) in this level of hockey, but as I've previously stated you never know when you may fall awkwardly into the boards or on the ice and you may need the protection. I want to be able to get up for work in the morning after a game and I'm getting too old to deal with a serious injury now, they just take longer to heal.

Once you are married, have a few kids, and a mortgage, a good pair of shoulder pads or any particular pads(elbow, shin, etc.) is a worthwhile investment in protection no matter what level your game is.

So how low profile are these pads? I'm just looking to absorb the occassional bodycheck and a hell of a lot of stickwork. However I dont like huge shoulder pads, so low profile is super important.

Great point Dark...I resemble that remark. I wish hockey was my career, but unfortunately it is not, so I must be able to go to work every morning. I would rather be safe than sorry.

hmmmm ok so would the one90 pads or the bauer lightspeed pro pads be better for a forward? i'm curious as i'm using vector 10 pads and though they protect well.. damn are they heavy..

if i were a forward i would take the one90s over the lightspeed. going by the picture i saw on great skate of the lightspeed, they look more bulky than the one90s and one70s. I would take the 90's or 70s just for the mobility advantage i think theyd have over the lighspeeds

The beer league I play in has a few really big players who can't ( won't ) stop

well at all. I have has some pretty nasty collisions with them and my surroundings ! No check doesn't mean no contact, and while I see both sides, if someone feels better with top line protection then they should go for it if they can afford it. At some point it's not about how good you are, or the league you play in, it's about having cool gear!

I would also say the One/90's are about the best for protection in low profile shoulder pads. Some of Nike/Bauers competitors have skimped on their actual shoulder piece and have added extra padding in other places,to make their shoulder pads seem more bulker and protective overall. Unfortunately this takes away from the whole concept of it being shoulder protection and more like over all body armour. In my opinion only one of Nike/Bauer's competitors makes a better shoulder pieces and all of them are not low profile.

I currently use the Bauer 8000's and will likely order the new lightspeeds very soon and keep the 8000's as my backup.

I play in a beer league yet demand top quality gear when it comes to protection. Non-contact doesn't mean no contact. Not to mention the times' when you catch an edge and go tumbling, get tripped and slide into the boards, etc etc. I'll do without the $200 composite sticks and put the $ into what really matters- protecting yourself as much as possible.

The one90 shoulder pads are great except fot the neck collar. It's really tight to get in and tends to shift around during a shift. Other than that it the best pads I've every owned. No complaints on the shin or elbow. (Very light)

I really like the shins, although they are a bit shorter than expected. They're only about a 1/2" longer than my vectors but are a 16" instead of 15"

Oh well. Very nice shins, it makes me consider getting the elbows and shoulders to match... although I'd probably get the 70s for shoulders or maybe 50s.
