tackla pants

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have been looking into getting a pair of 5000 pro tackla pants.

I am a size 32-33 waist and I'm 5 11 tall.

I could go either with a medium 50 or large 52 size.

Medium might be too short, large might be too wide (maybe even too long?).

I could get a size 50 + 2 inches. Can anyone tell me what the difference in lenght is between a medium 50 and large 52 (in inches)?

I would go to a LHS but none carry tackla pants in my area, there's hard to find. Anybody know a retailer that carries tackla in the Montreal Area?

Thanks I appreciate it!

It sounds like you're about the same size and build as me. I use Tackla 9000's size 50. I could have gone smaller for waist size, but I went bigger for length. From the belt to the bottom thigh they are 20 1/2" and they drape over by knees by about an inch. I know it doesn't really answer your question but I hope it helps.

Hi D aka speck

Do you find you have enough protection with a medium pant above the knee? Is there a gap?

thanks

They aren't above the knee, they drape over it. Sorry if there was a little confusion. If I drop or fall to my knees they still cover above my knee. I tried on 3 pairs at my LHS with my shinpads on though. You could try measuring your current pants from the waist seam down and compare it to my measurement to get a better idea.

I have had both 50 and 52 tackla pants. With a 34 inch waist I found that the 50's are snugger on you while the 52 are looser but do not slide off me. Both worked and the length in the legs that you gain with the larger pair is not much. I have 52's right now and if I had to buy another pair I would get the same again. You really have to try them on and see what you like

I had the same dilemma, but I am 6'2", so my choice was more drastic. I went with a 50 + 2 on the 9000 ACS. I have never been happier. Best pant I have ever worn, and I also have a pair of 5000 pro. I like the 9000 more.

I would go for the 52. Better to have a little extra padding down over the knees (provided you're not swimming in them), than too little. If there's a gap in your padding, you can bet you'll eventually be catching a puck there haha

The whole idea behind the +2 is to deal with that issue. It is not smart to buy a pant too big on the waist because you want them longer on the knees. Get them longer...not bigger.

I have a pair of the 9000's +2 as well. Definitly go with the waist size that fits you best (soounds like the 50's) and get the +2's.

thanks for all the advice guys, some of you mentioned the 9000 model. What is the difference in fit compared to the 5000 pro?

Also there is the 5000 air model. Has anyone tried these on?

MLSman: why do you prefer the 9000?

you sound about my size, I wear the 9000 Pro's and they are a size 52. don't go any smaller...

the 9000's are significantly lighter... you can feel the difference, as well as you have a touch more mobility...

Comparing the 5000 PRO to the 9000 ACS, the 9000 has more hard padding vs the 5000 pro...which has more foam padding. I really like the floating spine pad on the back of the ACS. I am not a fan of the 9000 Air. I have not used the 500 air so I can not comment on them.

My only compalint on the 9000's is the minimal tailbone protection. The older style Tackla butterfly shapped pad was better.

I have the Tackla 5000 in a size 54 with the shorter pant legs. Still longer than the Eastons I had before them and the fit is phenominal. I still like the Easton fit as well. Have a pair of Synergy S-5's I use for pickup hockey. Can't stand the CCM fit anymore.

Hey guys, quick Tackla length question. Nobody here in Aus. sells them, so I need to buy them from the states, so trying them on is not an option. I'm 6'4" with a 34/35inch waist. Would the 52 be a suitable length in the 9000's, or would they most likely be too short?

Thanks

Dane

Order the 52 "long"

The "longs" are +2. I've been mostly happy with my 9000 airs. Could use more protection in the hip/tailbone area which the 5000 pros have.
