Any mountain bikers on this board?

Recommended Posts

I'm not too familiar with Norco's lower end bikes, as everything of theirs that I have swung a leg over is $3,000+.....and for those models, I was impressed. But you are correct....top to bottom....Rocky Mountain does make some fantastic bikes at all price levels. Spec for spec they won't rival Trek and the other giants (with regards to component specs) but their hand built wheels and frames more than make up for the component spec compared to their competitors....and that is coming from someone that is a bit biased towards Trek. ;)

Sweet Jesus Spreed and JeffW those are some sexy ass machines. J welcome to the Yeti tribe. We are trying to put together a tribe ride some time this Spring in Pisgah

On the Khan I did some upgrades over the winter

full Record/Chorus mix

Fizik Arione CX

Fulcrum R-Torq S cranks

DT Swiss 1.1 on 240 hubs 28x

Dropped the Zipps, yes they were zexy(get it) but cracking in 4 months of use at the valve stem is not acceptable. E They were warrantied and while there the regional rep said that they were aware of the problem in 08 but since were redoing their carbon. Anyway, I learned the hard way and went handbuilt

Will get some pics up ASAP

Oh HOW I MISS PISGAH, and Tsali, and Fontana. :( I miss my mountains and fantastic mountainbiking. On the plus side of things......I have been riding here in Florida since January, and have never had a ride in less than 45 degrees. :)

Thanks for the props. Love me some hockey......but competitive cycling has been more of a stronghold in my life for longer than hockey. ;)

Check out your local bike stores. Most are offering killer deals on 2008/2009 b/c of the economy and if they are not supported right now your liable not to have them in the future. We lost PlumGrove Cycles in Leesburg just this year

yeah ill check out at my lbs if i can get something last summer i had a deal on gary fisher but i didnt want to go and sell my street park ride for it. Also its pretty normal that bike shops have it hard in the last 2 years i've seen the decline of the industry because we kids like to change our hobby's. Mtb park riding was bike now its all about bmx and there's only a few shop with good products for bmx'er the economy just didn't help it

Finished up my build of this last fall and got in some good riding before the snow flew. Only parts that came from my old '99 Giant XtC DS1 were the handlebar and shifters, plus the pedals. Frame is a new '05 NRS C1 carbon fiber with a '08 DT Swiss carbon fiber fork and carbon fiber shock. DT Swiss carbon fiber rims on King disc hubs. Magura Marta SL brakes with carbon fiber levers and Alligator lightweight rotors. XTR front and rear shifters/derailleurs with an XTR crankset. KMC 10-sp (narrower and lighter than a 9-sp chain but shifts perfectly on a 9-sp drivetrain) chain. Time ATAC pedals with Stan's ti spring/axle kit. Titec ti handlebar/grips and Syntace stem. KCNC seatpost and Cycle King carbon fiber saddle. Maxxis Maxxlite 310 tires and Flyweight tubes. Packing tape instead of rim strips to save weight. Titanium bolts for rotors, calipers, and stem clamp/faceplate. Minus shown bottle cage and seat pack/tools it weighs 20.83 pounds. As shown it's still under 22 pounds ready to ride. :) Cost... ha ha... don't ask! It's too frightening to tell you. Just the bare DT Swiss carbon fiber rims were $500 each if that gives you any idea, ouch. I also have a Raleigh R700 road bike I built up with Ultegra/Dura-Ace driveline and components, FSA carbon fiber crankset, American Classic CR-350 wheels build by Mike Garcia, and Easton fork. Nowhere near as nice as that Orbea road bike though!

edit... I have a nice '99 Giant XtC DS1 dual-suspension frameset (18.5" aka medium size... a couple of small cosmetic dings in top tube otherwise in superb shape) with a custom-made Risse Astro-5 air/oil rear shock and freshly-serviced RockShox SID XC fork, King headset, XTR front/rear derailleurs, XTR 9-sp cassette, new Mavic X223 disc wheelset, lightly-used Formula Evoluzione hydraulic disc brakes and 160/140mm rotors, Syntace F99 stem, System 2 aluminum handlebar with CODA Weave grips, Lizard Skin chainstay protector, and a Kalloy aluminum seatpost. All you need is a saddle, bottom bracket, crankset, pedals, chain, and 9-sp shifters. If you're nice I'd throw on some tires/tubes!!! :)

Needs to go (older photo... see description above for what all is with the frameset now):

Spreed thats a pretty sweet setup on that orbea, how much did you drop on those spinergy wheels?

Still have a few hook ups in the industry......so we'll just say I didn't pay much for them. ;) About the price for a set of DA/Open Pro's. :)
