No Icing Sports

Recommended Posts

Has any one had their skates profiled at No-Icing Sports in New Hampshire using that Sharpen by Mail thing? If you have do they do a nice job.

I had them do a set for me a few months ago and I am happy enough with them, that I just sent my original steel to them to get the same pitch radius and hollow. It wasn't a huge change for me, they gave me a slight forward pitch and a more shallow hollow.

I have skated on the steel i bought from them and they have held their edge very well and I am using Easton steel. (I will admit as a relative newbie to hockey i am not terribly hard on my skates)

By the way, if you search no icing on this borad you will get several more threads that will most likely any question about this you might have..

No offence but it kind of seems dumb to me to mail your skates to get sharpened. IMO anyways.

You can take the steel out of the holders.

I know a couple guys that do this, they have 2 sets of steel. That way they have a set to use while the others are getting sharpened / shipped.

a) You mail in your steel only

B) Not every place has a skilled sharpener

I started using NoIcing (Bob) for sharpening via mail about 6 months ago. Custom profile and I purchased an additional set of steel to rotate out. Consistent and excellent sharpening and I always get my blades back very quickly.

Local shop argued with me when I wanted to go to 3/4" and the last local sharpening that I got was horrific. Not worth my time to go watch a different kid every time do questionable work when I can just drop them in the mail and know I will get great service.

Give it a try..

I'll second that he offers very good service. He was very patient with all my questions and followed up with me after I did my questionairre to clarify some things. He actually sent the wrong size steel to me, but as soon as I notified him he had the correct set to me before I even returned the original runners...I was very surprised by that level of trust and service.

I do the 2 sets of steel also. Bob does an awesome job. Over 1 year of doing this and every single sharpening has been great.

I skate on Kor's and the steel pops out in about 2 minutes.

I have used the mail in service for several months, with two sets of steel. I am very happy with it. Bob not only does great work, but he explains everything that he is doing, and why. Bob's store happens to be pretty local, but with a busy schedule the mail in service just works well for me.

Much like our own Jimmy, one of Bob's specialties is sharpening goalie skates. This wasn't a big deal, previously, since you had to send the whole damn skate in; it just wasn't economical. Now, with the new CCM/RBK cowlings (mine finally arrived!), it's the same process as a player skate: pull the bolts, mail out the steel to your closest viable sharpener, and get a great grind back in a few days.

I'm a little spoiled having Toronto Hockey Repair just down the street from me, but if I ever end up back in Scotland, I'll be doing this a lot. Anybody I know who plays overseas is getting a major recommendation to the CCM/RBK setup.

I had Bob do a set of blades for me. He was very nice and answered all my newbie questions both over the phone and via email. It just happens that my LHS skate pro was trained under Bob and does a fantastic job. I tried the equipment guys for the local pro team, but my LHS is head and shoulders better. So in a way I fully endorse Bob.

Hahahaha

Oh man, sorry guys. :)

That's what I get for being a GSBB regular and an MSH newbie!

P.S. I encourage everyone to make me feel stupid. My wife is far too tactful.
