CASCADE HELMET

Recommended Posts

because it's hockey, not a fashion show.

Just remember not to submit that for the MSH slogan, I know a few members who would be crushed to hear that.

I think we may have a slogan winner!

I was thinking about purchasing it. I tried it on at my lhs and I thought it felt great. It was very comfortable but I can relate to the poster who said there is not much air flow and would get very hot. I thought that it looked pretty sweet but like someone said to each is his own.

HOW WAS THE WEIGHT OF THE HELMET???

I actually thought it was pretty light. The poster that said they thought it was heavy, it could be that I might have a stronger neck. I think this is a great helmet comfort wise and wanted to just get more input on the structure of the piece and how well it will defend against blows. When I had it on my older brother started hitting the helmet as hard as he could and I didn't feel it at all.

Tell ya what... I dont see why the loks get critisized. It got the approval at our office.

I live in the same town they are made so I popped in and got the lo- down.

I left with a lid.

Its not as light as my 8k, but I never had a helmet fit so well. That alone made it feel light and appropriate. Visibility through the cascade grille was superb.

These folks know what they are doing, thats for sure. Quality issues are nil now with the certification.

I went from a 852 to a pro tack to an 8k...still have em all... now the cascade will be top lid.

My only issue, and it seems breathability, because it is so well padded... But when I wore it it did not make me feel any different.

Embrace change, especially when its for the better

I'm not doubting the protection until further notice, but this was one of my biggest letdowns for a piece of equipment.

In my opinion, and most others', it looks terrible, mainly from the front. I'm not diggin' the boxy profile from the front. I also was not impressed with the adjustability of the helmet. It was pretty difficult and not smooth by any means. It fit pretty decent, and seems like a tank, but I just feel like a bobblehead when I have it on. Almost seems top-heavy if you can imagine that. I did not see the visibility through the cage because it was too small, but based on looks alone, the cage won't be much of a hit. They have something going, but it needs a lot of improving in order to sell well, at least around here.

I'm not digging that you have the option of having 2 colors on your lid. One for one part of the shell, and one for the other, as seen on the link. I guess I'll post it again. Same one as someone posted on page one. The front looks like a combination of the back of the Nike Bauer 8500 and a bit of the RBK 8k, the side is like the 8k without the color inserts, and the back, from what I see, looks a bit like the Jofa 390. In conclusion, ugly lid.

Peranis had some so I tried one on.

It fit VERY nicely (for my melon head at least). I thought it was extremely comfortable. The padding felt like it'd be quite protective. There appeared to be great venting as well - tons of openings for the heat. However, I can see what Chadd was talking about earlier too - because of the way the lining is, even if there is venting there isn't a ton of ways for air to flow under the lid at all. Not sure how hot it will end up being. Still had a large number of openings though.

I didn't think it was over-heavy at all (but didn't compare it to anything else while I was there). However, what are we talking difference wise here? 1 ounce? 2 perhaps? I'll never notice that. Again, I think some obsess over marketing hype on how lighter = automatically better.

However, I, like others, am not a fan of the two tone helmet scheme (although, I also think the black and yellow vectors with chrome holders are f-the-butt ugly and yet young kids are going sterile over how much the obsessively rub themselves over the prospect of having one of those trailer-trash looking skates, so who am I to judge?).

The plastic on the helmet, however, did not feel solid. Holding the back in one hand and the front in the other I could twist the frame of the helmet in opposite directions quite easily. Just felt like it had more rubber in it than hard plastic, know what I mean?

I got to fondle one today while having my skates baked. I really like it! We (the salesperson and I) compared the flex of the Cascade and the reebok 8k. The reebok had less side to side flexibility (temple shot), but the cascade was much more sturdy front to back (header into the boards or head plant on your back). I tried it on and it fit amazingly well. Almost like it had been pre-molded. I do see that the padding may be so thorough that ventilation suffers. There seems to be plenty of holes cut out in the shell, but the foam covers alot of it up. $120 without cage is a little steep for my cheap wallet though...

EDIT: It also seemed every bit as light, even with the cage, as any other helmet I held.

Got to try one on during a visit to hockeygiant's store. The padding seemed off center in the particular one I tried, but it felt nice. DIdn't try to rip off what is left of my hair like I felt with the 8k.

If I may... How about you tell us more about it? What exactly do you like about it? and what have you used to compare it with? Every product deserves to get both sides of the story told.

funny, i recently heard a story about how a local store had only sold one, and that the person that bought it got a concussion while wearing it. you must have had a crappy helmet before.

First off, there's no accounting for taste. Plus, even great products like Kor have a hard time selling (or, Busch before it - the real first one piece composite) because no one knows the name. It's a lot of dough to shell out for an unknown.

Next, person who bought it got a concussion? Who's to say that same person wouldn't have gotten it wearing another lid? To be fare hehatemefrisbee, that's not exactly something you can compare so laying it out in that fashion words it in a fashion that attempts to (potentially) lead one to a false/unrelated conclussion.

Regardless, the dude likes the helmet because he said it was light and comfortable. I wouldn't mind hearing more of destars57's story, however, and other products he may have tried and what he likes about it over the others (assuming that there is more to it than it being light and comfortable - which, can be enough right? Many use lots of products for the same reason)

Anywaym, I don't own one, but I did try it on in the store and, for my head shape/size, it did fit pretty well. I just didn't like the way it torqued in my hands - didn't feel substantial. Then again, I have heard people say the same about other brain buckets (I want to say it was the Rbk - someone can check earlier posts in this thread) and people seem to love it.

Regardless, a helmet isn't a guarantee that you won't get a concussion, just helps. ALSO, another thing to note is some of the studies that Shock-Doctor quoted - a substantial amount of concussions are not actually caused by the jostling of the brain against the skull per say (i.e., the helmet not absorbing and disipating the impact as much as the blow would require) but actually some weird reverberation of the jaw slamming down. Someone can find the article(s) I'm sure.

NOW, that being said, is there anything wrong with the guy liking the helmet? It's certainly not uglier than the old Mission Carbsters which have a loyal cult-like following. So, aside from the asthetics, does anyone have first hand experience (good or bad) they'd like to share? No "My cousin's friend went to school with a kid" type stories please....

Ha! No, my man, us Dallas-ites need to stick together. I owned one myself actually. However, they are not the most attractive lid around. Then again... now adays with helmets getting bigger and less traditional in shape, they may fit in a bit better now than they once did.

The is a french canadian hockey show called Les Boys (yes the same bunch as the movies) and they are all wearing Cascade helmets during the hockey games. They are also all wearing TPS equipment.
