bauer 8000 helmet

Yeah, people around here don't seem to mind paying $400-$600 for skates but when it comes to protecting your head...forget about it!

what's with the occipital lock? is that like widthwise adjustment? or is it just for a more secure fit

The Occipital Lock system locks the helmet against the back of your head (occipital bone) Sorta like what Pat LaFontaine got on his helmet which ended up on the CCM retail helmets.

The helmet adjusts length and widthwise.

I should be getting them soon - the ones in Toronto were models and not the actual helmets.

IMO, it looks liek the top of a 5000 and the front of a Cooper SK2000...

It may be ugly but after hearing from players that used the helmet, it's supposed to have the best ventilation on the market.

I'd get one if it was cheaper. I don't really care how a helmet looks. Afterall, its the one piece of equipment that you don't have to look at while you're playing.

Well, over here where I live, in are POS arena's and when it's really cold, I don't know if I want much ventilation. Brrrrrr...

Tuuk, if I remember correctly, was a separate company at that time. Bauer bought Tuuk out. I think.

Let's see how much I remember...

Bauer, Cooper, Tuuk, Daoust, Lange, Micron.

Old-skoolers - am I forgetting anyone?

No, I think that covers it.

In the late 70s, Cooper bought out the original WinnWell brand, but rather than keep that name alive, they dissolved it. WinnWell's helmet became the Cooper SK2000.

The WinnWell brand was licensed to Irwin Sports (a division of Irwin Toy of Canada) along with the Cooper Baseball brand in 1989 or so, when Bauer purchased Cooper Hockey.

Irwin Sports went under in 2001, so WinnWell was dead again, but The Hockey Group recently purchased the name and are supposed to begin manufacturing their own brand of equipment under the WinnWell name.
