It's pro hockey, unless you were a all-american club player in D1 or maybe D2 and you for some reason didn't want to play NCAA your probably not going to make it. I have buddys who played for 3 years in the QMJHL and another who played 4 years NCAA D3 and they have a hard time making it in the SPHL which is below the CHL. But if you want to do it look at David Perron the MSHer who went to the Blues in this years draft, he said he worked hard and believed in him self, and if you do the same who says you can't make it somewhere.

the chl is below the uhl. it's a good league. Unless you were scouted in ncaa d3, or played d1 you wont make it from club. the only guys you heard of are from URI whos coach has a connection as i beleive one of the alums is a coach there. I dont want to be harsh but think coming from club, there are d1 ncaa guys, ncaa d3 guys, and major junior guys who have no other choice but to play where they can so you have to beat out essentially 5 leagues of players to make it

Where are you playing now? I am playing against the chl guys in the DFW area and I play college club and these guys smoke me in most categories. Most of those guys played d1, d3, or jr hockey somewhere. If youre not doing any of those, your chances are slim to zip.

I know someone who went straight from Junior 'A' in Alberta (AJHL) to the CHL if that helps. You can usually see a few junior 'A' players go straight to that league. Not very many Major Junior players will opt to go straight to the CHL though as they would rather play CIS and use their free schooling.

I know a guy who played SPHL and while he's better than me, he isn't even the best player on his beer league team. It's hard to live on what those guys get paid.

If you want to play in the central league, it is a long shot like someone said, but there are a handfull of guys each yr. who make the club-pro jump.. A few off the top of my head are:

Glen Duetellio (Iowa State-Kalamazoo, UHL)

Chad Wilcox (Weber State- Fayetteville, SPHL)

Will McMahon (Oakland Univ.-Quad City, UHL)

Brad Buss (UC Berkely-Pee Dee, SPHL)

Curtiss Patrick (Penn State-Wilkes Barre, AHL/Wheeling ECHL)

A few other Penn State guys have played in Johnstown and Wheeling in the ECHL

Well anyways, if you want a chance, the best way to know if you can hack it is give it a try and get some feedback from a CHL coach... We are having a camp in Detroit in August, there are a few spots left if you want to give it a shot. Top 3 guys get a camp contact in the CHL with Memphis, and my company and myself, along with Coach McClelland are going to place the guys in N.America and Europe who have potential. Here is the link for the flyer:

You mention the Brahmas. Man that's nothing but Boxing on ice (reminded me of The Chiefs), I've never seen so many Goalie fights. Or at least it used to be. It was as if they were all trying to get noticed for an enforcer slot in the Big Show, but now that the rules have changed it may be different.

Given my comment about the fighting, and I do enjoy a good fight now and then, they are great players. I've got a call in to a buddy that knows a few of the old players. I'll try to find out how they got there.

Could someone list the levels of Senior play in the North America?

We have quite a few guys with UHL/ECHL/AHL experiance that come to europe and play pro hockey. Besides the AHL I have no idea which of the other senior leagues are best?

The "list" in my head looks like (in order) this so far:

NHL

AHL

ECHL

UHL

CHL

SPHL

It's debatable, but in the last couple of years one might put the CHL above the UHL.

Yes, the UHL has history and geography on its side, but it's been going through some problems. They've had to change their name (it's now the IHL - international hockey league) and there are only 6 teams left. In fact, I think they've lost teams to the CHL recently too (Idaho?).

The CHL has two conferences, four divisions, and 17 teams across 9 states. At least 2 or 3 teams have affiliates in the AHL. Lots of CHL fans & writers are hoping for the two to merge (and by merge they mean CHL take over their teams...)

So, if I'm almost 30, out of shape, love my beer, and play adult beginner level, how long before I'm drafted?

Ya I am 18 and I played A and AA travel hockey when I was 14 and havnt played organized hockey in 4 years!

How long before I am contacted about suiting up!
