One huge thread containing all the equipment questions with no order? Yeah, I smell Coke II.

I recommend going to the LHS trying everything on blindfolded and buying what works best.

Haha, I'd love to see the results. Take out the marketing/peer presure/looks bias's and go with comfort and feel, and you'd see a vastly different batch of equipment people would be using. I use to blindfold kids who came in wanting the "chic" gloves and put the model they wanted on one hand and a Pro Tack on the other. They would ALWAYS pick the pro tack as the most comfortable. I use to do that with skates too but it took too much time, blindfolding and straping the skates on for them. It was real funny seeing what skate they said felt better, but in the end they still went with the other model. The power of marketing.

When I bought my Vapor XXXX's I really wanted to get One90's because I prefer the traditional look of the black skate. The Vapor XXXX's fit better though and since I don't really look at my feet when I play I figured they would do. I think it is funny when people complain that their equipment is the problem when it really doesn't fit properly but it is what they wanted because Joe Cool on their favorite team is wearing them.

I had a kid who refused to try anything on, he just wanted his dad to pay for what he had already decided was the best. I was blowing out some gloves and his dad made him try on a few things with his eyes closed. Eagle on his right hand, Fury classic style on his left had. "Which glove feels better?" With his eyes closed, "the eagles".

Somewhat related, I was recently in Brazil and as a joke, the in thing is to put the logo of a high-end car on an old rusty bucket of bolts. It's pretty funny seeing a Porche logo on an old, beat up Chevy!

Gotta love the glam.

As for the blindfold trick, I once saw a Dad do it. I thought it was brilliant! But I could see how time consuming it could be.

I can't stand the fit of the pro tacks and those were the gloves I wanted to get when I started skating out.

LMAO, that's exactly how smart kids tend to be...

It's kind of funny, but my 12 year old brother is the complete opposite...my parents will go out and buy him new skates, sticks, equipment, etc, because they see it as a motivation to play hockey I suppose (that and the fact that he actually does really need new equipment).

But, every time, he refuses to wear it. He has shinpads that are torn apart and too short, worthless gloves with holes, and skates that are about 2 sizes too small (finally he switched to new ones recently, which fit better). His brand new shinpads and brand new easton gloves have been untouched, as he truly doesn't care about his equipment, and wants to wear his old gear.

I can just see him as being one of the future old time beer leaguers who is dressed head to toe in ratty, 30 year old equipment...
