number21 3 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 I don't fish as much as I would like to.Caught this 39"(+) Northern Pike on my trip over Memorial day!(ignore my stupid closed eyes)I say 39"(+) because this is the biggest fish i have caught and I was a bit excited and put it back in the water before I got a proper measurement. It was tired to my buddy taped it next to the boat, while i held it but, I didn't want to try and re-net it at risk of killing it. I think it was bigger than 39", but that's the most accurate measure I got.I am mostly a small lake fisherman, mostly catch and release. Perch, walleye and small bass are good to eat though.I caught that pike on a dead smelt rigged up with a couple hooks while anchored off a drop off.I usually use Ugly Stick rods (cheap and strong) and Shimano spinning reels. My favorite lures are mostly the classics: mepps, rapalas, spinner baits, Heddon Torpedo, jitterbugs, rebel crawfish and live/dead bait.probably more than you wanted to know.more photos of my buddies and I over Memorial day. Hazard14 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 thats a nice looking pike i dont think ive seriously went freshwater fishing before, except when i was really young. heres a pic of the fluke we caught yesterday on the jetty, its almost 20 inches i believe. thats not me holding it btw. my brother used an Ugly stick rod/reel combo, the ones you buy in modells for 80 bucks, not the best reel hes ever used. broke very quickly, he switched it up for a shimano baitcaster, alot better
number21 3 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 ha!i have never seriously gone saltwater fishing.but then again i grew up with the great lakes.

Hazard14 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 its just my location, in brooklyn (sheepshead bay) there arent many freshwater lakes, none actually to the extent of my knowledge, i live like 2 blocks from the canal (lots of fish, although polluted), and its a short walk to the beach. only like 10-20 minutes. im going on a boat fishing trip, right out of sheepshead (got lots of charters), supposedly able to catch in upwards of 15 bluefish. sounds like a good time to me
number21 3 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 is this the right bluefish?looks like a good fighting fish, a they apparently take top water lures., so i bet they would be fun to catch. I love catching bass and pike on top waters!
Hazard14 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 mmhmm thats the right fish, definatley a good fighting fish and hella fun to catch. The largest bluefish ever recorded was caught in 1903 and measured 3 feet, 9 inches and weighed 27 pounds so yea, they get pretty bigthats by size, but by weight they could get up to 40 pounds

DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I don't have the time to fish that I used to but I like to fly fish for trout. The Catskill rivers in New York are 2 hours from here. I fish the Beaverkill when I make the trip. I have been flyfishing since 85. I have a lot of old bamboo cane fly rods from the 50s. I buy them at a reasonable price at antique shows. They are heavy and slow casting but worth using when you have a big brown trout on the line. I have been to Montana 4 times to fish the Madison and in Yellowstone. I lost a southbound freight train in my backing on the Madison inside the park. That was the biggest one I ever lost. I also fished in western Montana on the Clark Fork and Rock Creek. Fishing out west is the best. When I was a kid we used to up to nothern Maine to fish the lakes for bass and pickerel. That was always a lot of fun.I always liked playing hockey in the winter and fishing the spring and summer. The hardest part would be finding an upstate bar at night that would put on a Stanley Cup playoff game in May on the TV.

Apnea or tanks, I perefer apnea (breatholding/freediving).A few areas of Kaliforniastan have started allowing freshwater spearing for certain species but for the most part it is saltwater only.
