Despite all the promotion and hoopla, they got a 1.0 rating. That's the highest soccer rating in US TV history.

Xavier used to play right back for Liverpool, until Steve Finnan took the number 1 right back role. Xavier bounced to another team before playing in MLS. He's not too bad, but a bit slow I would think.

Despite? More people tuned in to watch Beckham's arrival than the USA v. Italy World Cup game a year ago. If you remember, it was a fairly important game in US Soccer history, as we were the only team to take a point from the eventual WC champions, even with only 9 men on the field after 2 red cards(agame misconduct in hockey terms).

What kind of ratings would the NHL get with all that promotion?

With the current state of the NHL? I'd say not all that much better.

The current state is because of lack of promotion and visibility.

So for the people who vote 'no' could you explain why? I'm just curious.

Because Beckham is only one player who will be playing in only about 10% of MLS's games. That's not enough to get me to change my viewing habits, which is about one game a year.

Soccer is a wonderful, tactical game, but the truth is I don't watch sports too much, as a courtesy to my family, so soccer is lower on the list.

He's bounced around mostly cause he's a tool, or so I hear. The other guys arn't really close to the end of the line just yet, save for Reyna. Angel still has a few years in the tank, and only left Villa(who are in town on Saturday :) )cause they brought in a couple other players since he was having issues with injuries and inconsistancies there. I bet he coulda found work other than MLS. Toja is like 21, and is going to be good and could be Euro bound eventually...he was a nice find by MLS searching to improve. Schelotto could have played in Europe but has stayed in S. America his career. He is end of the line, but he's got some skills still.

The talent infusion isn't as bad as you might think, IMO. MLS is still pretty solid, and their all-star teams each year have won against some good European competition, granted those teams were still in the preseason, but if they were really that outclassed in talent, it wouldn't happen.

I disagree completely.

DC United beat Celtic (UP THE HOOPS!!!) last year 4-0.

DC United were in mid season form, having won 11 out of their last 14 games.

Celtic go to Turkey for altitude training for the preseason. They spent 2 weeks doing gruelling high altitude training, 6-8 hours a day, then got on a flight from turkey to New York, arrived in new york, and then hopped a plane to DC, where they played DC united the next day.

There is a world of difference in preseason and mid season form, and when a team has been playing together for half a season, compared to a team with new faces that have not played together yet, and are in the middle of their preseason conditioning program, there is a reason they seem close together in form, but realistically, put the LA Galaxy in a league with Celtic, or Chelsea, who only beat them one nil, and you would see on a weekly basis, the difference in the leagues

I was talking all star games where it's more even considering most the players have probably had only a couple sessions together. Without the lack of cohesion, they've still pulled off victories against Celtic and Chelsea. Idk what the situation is with Chelsea, but Celtic has been in the states for a while before the all star game last week and had most of their regulars in and the MLS guys took it to them the first 2/3 of the game. I know about their fitness is probably at a higher level, but in a game where subs were in and out a lot, idk how big a deal that is.
