CCm Tacks 892 opinions needed

Recommended Posts

im looking at poicking up a pair of CCM Tacks 892's. Just a few Q's for you guys. What are the main differences between the Tacks and Vector lines of skates that CCM puts out? also, i know CCM's are a bit wider fit than Bauers, and i fit pretty well in a Vecor 4.0 roller hockey boot, just not sure if that would translate well into the Tack 892? any welp would be a treat :D

The tacks is a bit wider than the vectors. They also have a deeper fit than vectors.

tacks are for big feets and big ankles I think.

If you don't know, don't make dumb-ass comments or guesses. Given a little bit of time, those with actual knowledge will help out the original poster.

thats me. now i can only hope to get a good price on em!

Careful. Just because you think you have wide feet doesn't mean you do. This is a big mistake that a lot of people make when they buy skates.

nope it doesn't.. a 2E vapor boot has a wider forefoot than D tacks. But a D tacks boot has a wider heel than a 2E vapor..

To be sure, you have to try it on.

yeah, ill have to keep that in mind as the Vector 4.0 11D fits my foot pretty well at the forefoot, but not quite as well as the Vapor 11EE's i have.

any comments on the CCM Externo e50?

same fit as an vector boot. Basically a vector skate without lace locks. The externo60 was ccm's top end skate, but the e50's were also high end skates.

Nope.

Much wider than a Vector - it's the same fit as a Koho.

A few key things to keep in mind if you're still considering the 892 Tacks:

- From a design perspective CCM did a significant makeover if you compare any of the x92 tacks with the previous x52 series. For instance, CCM replaced the not-so-popular ProLite holder with EBlades. They also structured the boot differently and added the lace lock.

- From a fit perspective, Tacks have a long reputation of being good for people with wide and shallow feet. (Shallow being defined as the vertical distance between the top of the highest point of your foot and the floor. ) People with high arches often require skates that have a deeper fit, but arch height isn't the only determining factor. Bone size is also a determinant.

- From a trendy/fashion perspective, after 100 years in existence CCM has discontinued the Tacks line. Some think it will come back, while others say it's gone for good because it isn't flashy enough for today's market.

If the 892's fit your foot it’s a great intermediate skate that will serve you well -- especially if you can get them at a fabulous discount.

Good luck,
