I bet there's some contract RBK has that says the new jersey cannot be a transfer from the old pattern. Toronto changes the logo slightly, Detroit moves the letter, etc. Five more years and all players will be required to wear RBK protective, skates, and sticks :P.

It's good to know that if I decide to get an Edge I can put the C on the left.

JR, if you do have a new one, any thoughts on sizing? A current 58 Auth/XXL Replica fits me, but if this Edge fits snug and stretches to the size I'll have to pass entirely

edit 2: it seems the San Jose one has even less room on the right for the letter, making it necessary to put on the left still.

And if you look at some old Wings photos — Ted Lindsay, for example — it’s actually been done that way before, too.

Makes me feel a bit better about the change.

Ugh. I never looked at the Islanders' logo hard enough. That's on par with the Canuck C/Rink/Stick/Whale/whatever else hybrid.

It wouldn't look right. Have you ever seen a team crest that wasn't centered on a hockey jersey? Especially on an NHL team? There would be too much space between the v-neck and the crest. If you move the logo down then the jersey will look like a factory second.

Wait a minute. Maybe Im just really dumb.. or the C (on the REAL photo) IS going over a seam? Theres a line in the top left corner of the C, which, if im not mistaken, is that other panels seam? Am I just not understanding clearly?

You are right. It can go over the seam, but look at the position it is at. It would be on the logo. What they used to do on the pre-EDGE jerseys is move it way over, almost by where the sleeves start.

I wanted to give all these Edge jerseys a chance... to be honest I was kinda excited for some new looks. Even the ugly ones ala NYI, I TRIED to like... but forget it. Asside from the Caps and Bruins, they suck. The new looks and the jerseys themselves both.

I understand where you are going with this, but if the Red Wings would've said "Well, we're doing this to honor our heritage" I wouldn't have had a problem with it. However, it 's being done because of the jersey design - and it's going to stand out when you have 29 other teams with the patch on the left side.
