Ok to stick nylon gloves in washing machine?

Recommended Posts

I just got a pair of XXX gloves from MissConduct and I wanted to throw them into the washing machine with my older pair of eastons. Problem is the XXX are nylon, just wondering if anyone has cleaned their XXX gloves this way

I wash my one90 gloves in my washing machine about once every two months with no problem. Just make sure you have a front loading washer and set the spin to gentle.

If they are more like the heavy canvas type nylon you might be OK, but when I washed my breezers even on the gentle cycle it caused some of the tears/rips to unravel worse than when I put them in.

my buddy washes his pro stock XX gloves (identical to XXX) in his parents washing machine every few weeks along with his inserts from his shin pads and his shell and he hasnt had any problems thus far.

I put my nylon Eagles through the wash a few times. Just make sure you give them a couple days to fully dry......the palms take a while.

i wash my vapor xxx every month. i just do it in the kitchen. get a sink full of soapy water and squeeze the foams and get them nice and soapy, then repeat with a sink full of clear water to rinse, let them dry in the dish rack.

works wonders for me, my gloves always smell like baby shampoo, its a beautiful thing

For future reference for any searchers out there, I washed them in top loader, they're fine and dandy

what settings did you wash them on, did you use detergent or just let them go through the cycle with water?

I use cold water, gentle cycle, some liquid detergent, baking soda and once in a blue moon i throw in some nature's miracle just for kicks

Will you have to condition the palms after doing so? Like could drying the palms out be a factor? (the bad drying out, not drying from being wet)

I have been washing mine in the machine for years as well as the rest of my kit except skates. Never had any problems in the past. My gloves get soaked during a game from sweat anyways. Just let dry naturally

Just curious; Why do you have to wash your gear other than if it stinks? I take my gear home, hang it to air dry and spray it with SprayFresh OT Hockey Odor Eliminator and it's good as new.

Even if it doesn't stink, the bacteria that is lingering on your equipment is huge. Hockey equipment is the worst for this.

Last inline season that I reffed (outdoor league) we have 6 reports of guys getting staph infections. Anytime you combine horrendous hockey equipment with a cut or anything.....you are very prone to infections.

Just my experience, i washed some sher-wood pro's that i received from a minor team. In about 2 weeks of time the palms were shreaded.. I believe, the washing made the palms to soft and not durable, but i could be wrong.

Ya, a couple of years ago in my league, someone contracted the flesh eating virus from their hockey equipment. Very disturbing.

A goalie that subs for me once in a while gets his equipment washed multiple times per season still ended up with a staph infection. (had a bad burn on his hand) I'll check with him to see what cleaning system he used.

I put my gear in the ozone machine atleast 3 times/year. IMO it's the best method to sanitize your gear, and there is no danger of it ripping or anything. My dad recently got a staph infection in his leg from his shin pads, and he plays no where as frequently as I do.

Did the goalie wrap his hand in anything or did he leave it in the open?
